Has anyone joined up with this scheme run by Hetas Woodsure ?

I am interested to know why all their press releases and members advertising claim that it is =<20% moisture content, yet their application form asks for it to be <25% moisture.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Hi we were registered with woodsure but it was a complete waste of time no one has heard of it and all most customers want are good dry logs as for the moisture % woodsure take away logs and do oven tests on them in a lab to calculate the moisture % so that when you get your certificate to show customers it has the % printed on it , you also have to keep records as to the chain of custody for you wood felling licence numbers ect ,ect.

They have recently reduced the MC to 20% from 25%.

Ironic really as all stove manufacturers want 16% max,  I did put this to Helen Bentley - Fox  the lady behind the scheme when it was launched some 5 years ago but to no effect.

I did not join then and have still not today although I am a Hetas approved retailer,   I felt that the quality standard was nowhere near where it should be.   At the time the countries largest supplier of Kiln Dried logs who were one of the first to sign up were offering a moisture warranty of 25%.  And as I think there was a sliding scale of charges depending on how much you sent out then money talks.  Certainly for a small scale seller where margins are tight anyway there was no major upside in paying Woodsure so much per Cu M to frankly not do an awful lot that was usefull.

I phoned them and was told it was now 20% and their website application form was wrong and required updating.

I have always resisted FSC, HETAS and Woodsure assurance schemes, most people just want good dry firewood and will return as long as you provide just that.

You have to increase sales by one hell of a lot to recoup the costs !
