Been thinking about getting one of the long reach stihl battery hedge cutters (hla65 i think) and was wondering are they a lot lighter than the two stroke engined long reach ones?

Having a look at the stihl website it works out to be maybe 1kg lighter than the stihl hl94 c-e two stroke long reach hedge cutter. (with the ap300 battery)

Just wondering how many people use a battery hedgecutter now over a two stroke one and are they capable of the same sort of cutting?

cheers, James.

I use one. I can't remember the model but it's the best long reach battery they do with the telescopic extension.

I've had it at least two years now and it's done a lot of cutting. I never abused it with big stuff but it is more than capable.

I use to run a Kombi with a 1 meter extension and this has a better reach and much nicer to use. With regards to weight, i don't think there is much in it and when on full extension it soon takes it's strain. I might have to invest in one of those harness jobbies.

Hope this helps but i have a good range of battery gear and up until now i can't fault it and have not seen any fade in battery longevity.

I find it heavier than the petrol version and poorly balanced, less vibes though and good grunt so can be used as you would a petrol one.

For me it's weight makes it a non goer.

Works well for me , better balanced with the older lighter ap 115 battery.

Had a few issues with the silly clamp ( on my 3rd ) the telescopic does move after age no matter how tight the clamp is .

Throw your ladders away or you will end up Trimming trees.

Yeah it's a shame the weight is as much as it is, I thought about using the shorter life batteries as it would make it lighter.

It's good to know they last a while though. I suppose you may end up saving money as you don't have to use two stroke all the time.

I hadn't thought about using a combi with the extension but they are 4mix engines which I have had a few problems with before...

For me it's the head weight that's the issue, when your trimming faces in sweeping motions I want all the weight at the battery end not the head. With the electric long reach the motor is on the head making it heavier to sweep up and down.

I don't Hedge cut for Heritage Trees but I do keep in with a landscaping firm that has been good to me over the years so through the summer I get climbers rates to cut vast amounts of hedges and prefer a petrol machine over the battery.

James I have a 10 year old Stihl HL75 long reach hedge trimmer and it's good but I recently tried my neighbours stihl lithium ion long reach hedge trimmer and I loved it. I'll hafta look at it again with regards to the spec and report back. I really rate them as there is no messing about with pre mix, filters, fumes and they don't suffer fuel starvation like the petrol ones with 1/3 of a tank of

Petrol still in the tank and struggle to run when tilted over and the fuel flows away from the fuel filter pick up. Plus you can use them without ear protection and simply let go of the trigger for a quick chat with yer workmates and not have to pull start it again.

Here tis. I dunno if it's deemed a 'pro or domestic model' but it has the AP 300 battery which gives quite a long trigger time. Pic of my neighbour holding it for scale.
