i saw a metal cable snap on a ship once and saw it fly through the air. you could hear it split the air in two. since then i stand behind my door like a wee girlie.

I used to do HGV recovery and have seen a winch cable go so should know better.

I normally hang a bit of carpet over the middle of the wire as a damper but my mind was running over every senario and it got missed :blushing:

Has anyone used one of those synthetic winch ropes, supposed to be stronger than steel wire ??

Challenge truck generally use them when winching because they dont have the recoil like steel ones do if they snap and they can run across the top of roll bars alot smoother than a steel wire would, my mates got it on his landrover, and it is very strong. Plasma rope its called, if your looking to buy some shop around, prices vary so much.

Easy to splice to, if looked after will last a long time.

If i had a winch i would use plasma rope :thumbup1:

I was putting barbed wire in a paddock started to stain it up and it went twang and flew over my head. When i looked the roll was all bits and hed been joined oh dear i don't do barbed wire now:lol:

I have tried the synthetic rope it is very good lighter and easier to pull out, but it seemed not to last long. After a week pulling over trees dragging them it had to be shortened abit.

jthetree has some on his jeep, i used it a couple of times when he was up, lovely to work with, no worries about wire under your nails and horrible sharp edges, great for wrapping around stuff and didnt get crumpled when rolling in to the drum.
