Alpine dreaming

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

So I've got a awesome opportunity (read: trouble in my personal life) to up sticks and move.

Now i like trees, but i love mountains. I'm hoping to move somewhere in the alps, for 6 to 12 months, and i'm looking to go sooner rather than later!

I was wondering if anyone knows of opportunities for a tree surgeon/forestry worker out there? Chamonix is the place that obviously springs to mind, but really anywhere from the Spanish Pyrenees to Slovakia could fit!

Now, drawbacks are that I only speak english and although i'm willing to try and learn anything i'm also pretty realistic that learning languages is not my strength. I've got about a years experience in tree work. First forestry, then climbing everyday for the last 6 months.

Hopefully the things that'll make it easier is that i'm super flexible, can bring my own kit out there, and to be honest as long as the job keeps me in bread and lentils (and teaches me a thing or two!) then i'm happy. It doesn't need to be well payed or a full time gig. Access to the hills is the aim.

Anyways, any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks folks,

Stu

Hi Stu

If I was in your shoes I would head to Whistler area, British Columbia. Massive mountains and even bigger trees! Lots of log home companies there too and they speak English.

When your done snowboarding there are 250km of mountain bike trails in the area.

Good luck!

Tony

The other option would be the South island New Zealand...

They speak English, you can get a Working Holiday Visa.. have similar training requirements to the UK etc..

I did it 15 years ago and still regret returning...
