Got to get rid of a medium eucalyptus root plate maybe 6 foot across, the local digger hire only has a 2.5 tonne digger does anyone reckon that will do it or does it need to be bigger?

my bigger concern is if it will be able to lift it or not.

Lift out of the hole or lift it on to a pick up etc ? knock all the soil of the roots and it,ll lift it no probs

Might need to rip through the roots one by one. Use the digger to expose them and attack them with a bow saw or an axe (or buy a carbide chain)

Maybe not a straight lift but you should be able to drag it out of the ground then carry it wedged on the blade.

A 6ft stump with a 2.5ton machine? You must be good on a digger, I once wrestled a 6ft stump out with a 13ton and that took a fair while and i could only just lift it on to a dumper.

I read it as a 6ft root plate. Once you knock the soil off I wouldn't have thought to would have been too heavy to shift. Doubt you'd lift it but between the blade and arm you should be able to drag it. Just my humble opinion!

Oh yes, just re read. 6ft rootplate and a 6ft diameter stump. Two very different things!
