AA

Anyone a member of the (arb association)if so is it worth it and what are the benefits,we had a talk today with a member who was trying to recruit new members,apparently there arent any members in cornwall,at the moment i cant help wondering why.

From the lack of response so far im assuming nooes a fan of the AA.

i think it costs a lot of money and time but if you are chasing the right contracts it certainly helps, if you do domestic then i wouldnt bother imo

Cheers mate that seemed to be the general concensus with everyone there today,but if it helps get the big contracts it might be worth a look,anyone got any idea of the costs(ball park) figure etc.

Are you talking about general membership of the AA or Approved Contractor status?

Well im not really sure we do alot of local authority work,but always lose out on the juicy money making jobs that the big firms get,we were wondering if we joined the AA would we have a bit more clout behind us and would it make a difference.

As a normal member i dont think there is much benefit other than a couple of magazines i dont think you can use the logo or anything, its been a while since i was a member. i am a member of the ISA and prefer that.

But as an approved AA contractor thats different and im sure would carry weight when pricing larger jobs.

You'd do well to remember DB, that the AA are nothing more than a trade association...... they are NOT a governing body. As such you have a choice whether to join or not, and this should not affect you standing as a professional Arborist.

 

If you're looking for a non political way of proving professionalism, i would strongly recommend that you look towards ISO 9001:2008 accreditation. ISO 9001:2008 - Quality management systems -- Requirements

Overall, less than AA membership. Plus more of a chance of competing with the PROPER big boys, that don't bother with trade assoc. membership.
