Carraro alpine spewing oil

I've been to see a carraro alpine tractor today, all looks good except that in top gear flat out on the road an awful lot of oil wells out through a perished hole in the pto lever gaiter . Should i be concerned? would a new seal and gaiter solve the problem? thanks

Hi there a new gator should do the trick but do check the gearbox breather isn't blocked!

Check oil levels gear box and correct oil in box new gaiter should fix

Thanks for the replies, one more question where is the breather likely to be?

The owner had changed the oil but couldn't get an exact match, he commented that the arms had become very slow to drop when cold.

I think a good quality super universal oil is the best that's what I've used in my brothers

There may also be a rate of drop adjustment on the arms but I'm not sure and I can't remember where the breather is sorry not much help

check that its not an sae30 hydraulic oil thats reqd rather than universal tractor oil, some of these small and compacts can be very fussy

Message from Carraro UK - Riko UK. Even with a warn gaiter I would not expect oil to come there. So it is more likely the transmission has been overfilled and even possibly with the wrong oil. Equally possible is if they have fed a hydraulic return into the transmission and it is a cavitation issue. Problem is that different models of Carraro have the hydraulic oil reservoir in a different location. Some are rear axle and some are front axle. If you can tell me the tractor model and location of the tractor I may well be able to shed more light on the problem. If you can get me the chassis number, then I should be able to give you the history of the tractor. If its one you are looking to buy I will happily give you a valuation and let you know about parts availability etc. I am on Holiday tomorrow and back 1st March so best bet is to email [email protected] and copy to [email protected] .
