Yes, 2 * 25 Amp in parallel will be fine

Just resist the tempatation to use a cut down 6 inch nail - no pun intended

The reason for that damage may be and likely to be due to poor crimping.

Re crimping the insulation should be inside the crimp and ratchet crimpers used to ensure full compression of the crimp on the bare copper and insulation, which the one in the pic isn't. If using the cheap non ratchet type crimpers then you have to ensure the handles are fully squeezed together fully twice, once on the copper once on the insulation.

Sorry if I'm teaching my granny to crimp

I'm old, and indeed a (step-) grandmother.

I reused some existing bits of wire and cramped the other end with ring terminals (with my proper ratchet crimper), didn't really inspect the fuse side properly...

Thanks.

Whats under the red/pink sleeve as there doesn't appear to be any crimping of the terminals?

An electrical hot spot is normally from a high resistance (bad connection) which would be sufficient to melt plastic quite easily.

Female Spade.

I think the heat changed the shape of the insulation a bit...
