Hi,

Looking for some advice on some yew boards that I milled today.

The stick has been down for about 2 years or so.

I'm aware that it won't be able to dry fully until it's boarded, but now milled into 2.5" boards, how long should I let it dry in the open for before working with it?

It's stacked with spacers in a woodland.

Should I still seal the ends to assist in drying?

Any tips or advice appreciated

No sealing required. It needs at least 2 years to dry. Despite being a softwood, it's as slow as oak to dry, particularly when slabbed fairly thick.

Thanks, so 2 years from when cut into boards?

And I'm assuming best left stacked and covered fully? Leave ends open?

Don't cover the sides. Cover the top to keep the rain off (you can use the waste sections from the log if stacked right) and let the wind blow through. Keep it out of the sun and it will be fine.

If you need every last inch, paint the ends as it will stop any degradation at the very ends but otherwise it is seldom worth the effort.
