Could someone please clarify how boring is used in the medium tree felling assessment whilst cross cutting. It is stated in the schedule that the assessed must use correct boring technique whilst crosscutting.

bore in to the tree then cut downwards until you have cut threw then cut back up to the top of the trunk hope that makes sence

Just out of interest, how is this tehcnique better than a straightundercut or top cut or a combination of these?

if the logs close to the ground you can't get under it to do the undercut in which case you'd bore

Ah, well thats the real world use, i was expecting some instructor style tales of logs shattering and brutally dismebering'dangerous untrained chainsaw operators' and such like.:001_tt2:

Some instructors will want to see you move your head to one side (normally to the left), in case of kick back when you bore in. This can make it harder to get everything to line up, but like most things it just takes practice.
