Forestry Mulcher suitability

Recommended Posts

Sorry I brought this up some time back but need advice again. Got a small area of 'crap' to eliminate with stumps (upto 24" dia but most <6") and other vegetation. Site is steep with tricky access i.e. no Fendt tractor will be able to get there so smaller machine needed. Ground clearance must remove stumps to depth and obliterate everything to leave a nice surface finish.

a) will this be the type of machine for the job?

b) Which co? Near ere are Perry Plant Hire (not sure if they have a tracked machine), Daniel C Upton and Roy Francis...

Cheers chaps...

tracked skidsteer mulchers will work ok on slopes providing its not too wet on top as you will loose traction when climbing gradients. if the mulcher has fixed rotor teeth it will handle the smaller stumps fine providing u dont try and go too fast. to smash the stuff up small and leave an even level finish i usually track backwards with the flap closed and rotor lightly touching the ground.

swinging hammer flails will leave a better finish on the smaller brambles etc but wont be as good on solid material

You need an excavator based mulcher, and then go back over it with an excavator based stump grinder OR excavator based mukcher and then pull the stumps out with the excavator and windrow for mulching.

The skid steer machines are very good but will only take stumps down to gound level and if you are on a side slope you'll have to watch you don't coup it!
