Spiderjack is sporty,if you like fast descents and the like then spiderjack is for you.I love the zigzag, not as sporty or quick as th sj but more forgiving. Both will eat your gloves- beware the glove munching monsters!

With the Spiderjack there's two separate movements opening and then braking.

One too many for my liking. Anything else zigzag , friction hitch and lockjack one movement.

My next purchases will be a rope wrench or a zigzag.

But do try , before you buy.

Thanks for the responses. I am not particularly bothered about sporty descents as long as I can get around the tree smoothly. I have used the Lockjack sport mk1 for some time and its a great device for ddrt but I am always looking towards reducing effort and am hoping one of these later devices will assist in that. I like the look of the lock off feature that the SJ3 has but the ZZ is far cheaper and has now undergone rigorous testing in the field! The general consensus so far seems to be leaning towards the ZZ but is that because the SJ3 is relatively new? I wonder?

I have the ZZ and love it, I use it on every climb it makes climbing a lot more efficient. My mate has the SJ3 he likes it but only uses it on big trees I'm yet to have a go so can only really comment on ZZ and tbh when it needs replacing it will be with another ZZ.

The main advantage of the sun is that you can feed slack through with one hand without having to pull the rope away from yourself. This makes coming back from a limb walk very safe as you keep your weight on the rope
