Anyone use a "safety razor"?

Received my merlot future, soap and brush today and just had a shave with it. My neck is really sore and I've got a few nicks over my face.

 

 

Try different blades and make sure you do a double pass. Shave once with the grain and then go back over again after a hot towel and fresh soap. Finish up with a cold rinse and a good quality balm, not aftershave.

I went at it a bit to fast I think and blade wise I used the feather ones someone mentioned earlier. I also got a alum block which stopped the bleeding but stand like hell!!

I learnt one thing. Blood is a good lubricant!

Then I had the thought that shaving with a straight razor is probably the most stupidest idea that I've ever had (and I've been married twice!)

 

One thing I noticed, Got a real close shave on the parts that weren't bleeding.

I tried once with a shavette, started, thought this is easier than I thought and then opened up my cheek. It's sat in its box since.

I was also told quick strokes but wash the blade frequently.

A razor that can cut a hair, by just using the weight of the hair on the blade as pressure..... the last thing i'd be doing with it on my face is going quick.

 

smooth... steady... gentle is for straight razor shaving...... unless your very good, very brave or like being covered in blood. haha

 

every one finds and learns their own way i guess. Quick is not for me.

 

 

Apologies, I meant with a double edge. With a straight edge I'd be worried if I had even a slight hand tremor.

Ha ha. It suddenly feels profoundly stupid, and dangerous, to voluntarily introduce a straight razor to the throat.

 

I had a similar 'what the hell am I doing moment' before stepping out of a perfectly good plane at 5000 feet. Everything prior to that moment feels perfectly rational and a good idea:biggrin:

While we're on the subject of razors; anyone shave the old dome and if so, what have you found best suited? Personally I use a Mach 3.
