How to tell if you need a towing licence

If you are stopped for being over weight/GTW you MUST be weighed. They can not use the plated weights.

 

However this is about licences.

 

If you are stopped for no trailer towing licence then they do use plated weights.

 

This is clearly not just about license, weight is obviously also an important factor.

 

I do not claim to be 100% correct, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

That is for C&U not licencing.

 

Licencing is done on plated weights.

 

Can you on your car Cat B licence that allows you to drive up to 3500kg drive an empty 7000kg lorry that has a real weight of 3400kg?

 

No you cant as its the plated or potential weights that are used.

Yes it does, for determining whether you are overloaded, not for determining if the driver has the correct licence.
