A couple of questions.

 

What are the implications of not having your climbing kit tested every 6 months? If you were to have an accident whilst in the tree, would an accident insurance company ask for loler records? Would they even know what loler is?

I'll be streight with you, I normally do have loler but it is currently lapsed. will be getting it done before crimbo.

 

On a general point though, we dont use crappy kit and I don't mind throwing stuff out if I think its past it. I have seen people climbing on stuff that I wouldn't use as a dog lead, but not for me.

Your insurance company would try and avoid paying out in the same way they would if you wrote your car off and they found out it had no MOT.

Just because they don't ask for it directly doesn't mean they don't expect you to have it. I asked my broker about LOLER as it didn't ask about it in the proposal form, he said that it was a legal requirement and it was assumed you complied with it. In the small print it usually says you are to comply with all current health and safety legislation.

I've got mates who risk it because they say their insurance company/broker didn't mention LOLER. I suppose you could go down that road, but it would be a tough way to discover your insurance was invalid, when you tried to make a claim and they asked for you current LOLER records.

You should really have it. It is relatively inexpensive and gives you an accurate idea of the state of your kit.

BTW I paid £400 last time for 2 complete climbing kits with 2 ropes each and a fair few toys and a fairly comprehensive lowering kit.

i would not have charged that much thats for sure

although it does depend on how much marking ect involved so not knocking whoever did it

and i would of marked everything made proper labels ect:thumbup:
