I am new to this site but like what I have been reading, I am looking for a new saw to pull a minimum 25" bar, I am looking at a used saw but just don't know where to go on a limited budget? I had a 281xp but had to sell unfortunately, would prefer stihl as feel better made. Any help, advice would be awesome thanks.

^ I've run an 039 with a 25" bar for years. Great for chogging down up a tree, when that little extra reach means you can cut from one side and not reposition. I'm 6'4", and it reaches perfectly to the ground while standing straight, something not to be sniffed at I'm sure you'll agree?

How much are they worth? Have been looking on eBay but I am a little unsure

They are now marketed as MS390, I believe. Look up price at dealer site. If you want a 60cc saw though and are buying second hand, you'd be as well to go 038; much better build with ally case etc, and made in West Germany, but a slightly heavier box.

Like I said, I've run an 039 for (15?) years with a 25" bar, and love it. If the AV is crap, it's because your rubbers are crap, and they should be replaced.

You did ask about 25" minimum though...039 or similar will do 25" max.

I agree the 039 is a good saw I paid £112.50 2 years ago and must have cut up 40 cord easy. I just need something now for BIG logs I don't do it for a living just for firewood and have done the odd favour tree for people I know. Would love to do tree work on the weeken but that's another story :001_smile: any advice where to buy 2nd hand saws? Like I said wary of eBay too many people trying to sell crap.
