I got in touch with yanmar, and they replied helpfully to the effect that I'd bought a grey market tractor and shouldn't use it as it was dangerous! They also said the documentation would be in Japanese - maybe that's why it's hard to find...

Kubota take the same stance over grey imports, even legal action against importers in the USA.

your tractor is no different in construction to models destined for export outside japan but is probably not equipped with rops or start in gear safety system, perfectly safe to use with care and common sense though.

my own dangerous, nasty grey import little Kubota 5001 is a great little tractor and known outside japan as a B5100 so I just obtained manuals online for this model.

Good liuck.

yanmar will not suport "grey" tractors due to the numerous litigation cases in the usa, sorry but you cant stop stupid, your YM 1600 is perfectly safe, and a cracking buy, hoyles are great for information, but wont ship outside the US, there are a few uk suppliers, sparex being the most obvious(check your local agrri supplier) as for a manual, a good search on the web should tur up something, clymer, I&T, being the 2 that spring to mind. and welcome to the world of the noisy 2 cylinder yanmar........lol

Thanks Martin. Yes, I didn't think it could be too unsafe. If I feel likely to roll it, i'll look at fitting a ROPS!

Not much luck in finding a UK equivalent for the 1600, but I'll keep searching.
