Carving Knives?

Hi I'm looking to buy my Christmas present from the wife. Can anyone recommend some good starting knives. I like the look of the of these.

Has anyone used these are there better out there for the money.

I use flexcut which I've never had a problem with , I did look at them your choosing but didn't find anyone using them at the time for a review.

Another vote for the Flexcut range, not cheap but really good, can also be put into a power carver if required.

I've just got myself the flexcut carving jack from Axminster as they have a good deal on them at the moment and i have a Mora detail and spoon knife that work fine but i'm new to this and have no idea what's good and bad. After a bit of practice this was my first carving.[/ATTACH] sorry for pics wrong way

Thanks guys I ordered one of these today £70 off from Axminster tools. I think it's going to be perfect as I just want to carve a few small bits in my breaks.

Thanks it's a good tool. Loves flesh so i now use my pike fishing glove. This is something i can do sat in front of the log burner and burn the mistakes. I'm hoping to use this hobby as a starting point to do some chainsaw carving later not sure if er in doors will be happy. Maybe if i buy her a hoover for xmas.

Yeah great idea on the hoover that will go nicely with the ironing board I've got her. Yeah get cracking with the chainsaw carving mate.

I'm defo getting some gloves not sure I'll find any piking gloves in my fishing gear never caught any bigger than jacks.

Sloyd with the shorter of the two blades. Absolutely, unequivocally (big word so I must mean it) the finest whittling knife of all - and I HAVE used all the Flexcut tools. Put the rest of the money toward a decent set of pre World War II gouges (that auction site usually has lots) and restore them. The old gouges can be identified by a hammered octagonal tang-end as opposed to the round extruded ends of later stuff. You need the old tools as they are forged from small batch specialist tool steel, so are made from steel of the correct carbon rating.
