Hi, been searching for ages but can't find the info I'm looking for, we haven't been doing logs for long and we are now having to buy in cord to keep up, I have naught a few loads recebtley by the ton, but I have been offered some wood per m3, I will be getting the logs collected and in the process of getting quotes but I am unsure as to how much they will be able to fit on an 8 wheeler load as they always quote by the ton. So my question is what would be the average m3 of hardwood cord per 8 wheeler

Thanks in advance

Tomm

I don't exactly know. It depends soft or hardwood as well. The hook loader waste skips are around 40 cubic metre. I imagine less with logs.

8 wheeler is 32t gross I imagine probably nearer 14tare with a crane as well leaving 18net. I've seen tippers with payload 19-21 depending if alloy or steel body etc.

Depends on high side or normal hook load Goaty. To be honest I would stay clear of of m3 for buying. A m3 of clay is about 1.5t a m3 of logs would be nowhere near that. You'll get your fingers burnt buying in m3 unless it's a very very low price your paying.

Thanks for the replies, I do normally buy per ton but got offered some per cube, apparently because it's dryer, when I asked how many m3 he reckons he could get on an 8 wheeler he said about 20!

Hi I'm construction based but I'm pretty sure an 8 wheeler carries about 14 cubic meters as an average rather than the 20t weight it can carry.

An 8 wheeler in timber transport will have a much different body style to the ones you see in the construction industry. Bolster pins and a long arm grab are the order of the day.

The ones we get in are 14tons and make around 24 cube of firewood. If you're using the same lorry as normal then just divide the cubic amount by the tons to see if it's a good deal. It's going to be the same volume of wood so I would say it's the total price per load that matters.
