Seriously, can you get a pressure washer set up next to it? Blasting the crap off as you go will for sure make a difference to your chain longevity.

 

Put some pics up when you do it mate. Sounds horrendous. Good luck!

dimensions are 4ft by 3ft circle. pressure washing sound like best idea. think i will do that. :thumbup1:

Can you cut some holes big enough to get a hydraulic bottle jack into it ? Even quite small ones will give you 10 tons splitting force.

 

What about drilling some holes big enough to get 2 scaffold poles in then putting a jack between them ?

I'd be using a petrol cut off saw with a metal disk on it.... will cut through the wood no bother at all, and the metal with ease... use it to disk the stump up and then remove from garden.

 

You might use a couple or even a few disks to get through the whole lot but would be cheap compared to a cobalt chain for your saw - the rescue chains cost a bomb and can't cut through steel bars.
