I had one as my first chipper and it was great. Surprisingly productive for an old machine. That one looks a tad on the expensive side, is say it should be more around the 3k mark. Just remember however well it has been looked after, it's an old machine and things will go wrong. Keep some cash in reserve and track down a good mechanic for when it inevitably goes wrong!!

All good advice here.

I also think its a bit expensive for what it is- an old chipper.

I have always have the attitude that what ever goes wrong with machines that they can be repaired, which to some extent they can however, it can get very expensive and not cost effective.

Its one thing swapping broken and worn out machine components but sometimes with old machinery the actual main body/chassis wears and fatigues and that becomes more difficult and more expensive to remedy.

sometimes/most times its worth getting something a bit better and newer.

But i know what you mean that isnt always possible when you havent got the funds available.

buy the best you can afford, this one is too dear.

I know it's very expensive but i didn't want to offer an amount, for him to say yes then ask on here what there like and get told there rubbish and then have to go back on my word and say I don't want it :/

I've got 6k cash waiting I just can't seem to find one I really like, I know it's not a lot for a chipper but 6k should be able to get me something, it's still a lot of money!! Any other advice I only really look on eBay if I'm honest. Where else is good too look. Preferably 6" but would consider a 5" although it would have to be clean

If you don't already check out the various arb Facebook selling pages, there's quite a few chippers come up on there

I've just found out about earborist and like the look of a vermeer bc625i for £5000, it's done 77 hours since sabre wood chippers (in Yorkshire apparently) overhauled it. No VAT as well which is perfect
