You're either a driver or a mechanic they say. Funny thing is the mechanics now work on middle aged stuff more than old stuff. If you can afford to live in the warranty bubble I guess you do.

I'd keep the 6K in the bank and lease something new. You can get most of the main players for around £200 plus vat a month if you don't go to spec. Your in warranty then. And you can write it all (or most of it if you use outside of work) off as an expense.

I think manufacturers build vehicles to keep you in the warranty bubble. Warranty is great but it's your fuel and time running it back to the dealer every five minutes if you get a bad one. I like Toyota even when totally shagged out they seem to get up for work on a snowy morning and tow 3 tonne all day.

Do you need a pickup? I drive a late nineties Landcruiser Colorado. They can be picked up for a lot less than £6k, are capable off road and have plenty of space for tools in the back. Tows 2.7 tons.
