moisture meter

Hello,

 

I am a new member and I grow and cut my own firewood/kindling.

 

Does anyone have experience of using a moisture meter with hardwood?

 

I have bought an MD-812 by Sinometer but it is giving me suspiciously low readings.

 

Could anyone suggest a good meter?

When you test make sure you split a piece of wood and test it in the middle. You should then get a more accurate reading rather than just pusing it into the end grain.

I sell the J-lite as pictured here for £95-00 + vat alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill

 

I looked into moisture meters and Delmhorst seemed to keep cropping up as manufacturing the most reliable meters. Have a look on their website.

 

I have 9 more available but when I've sold another 4 I'm putting the price back to £135-00 .... as they cost me £85-00 each

I hadn't bothered splitting a log, I just stuck the pins in the end. I hadn't expected the results that the meter gave (12-14%). After splitting a log, the meter registered in the range that I was expecting (24%) - so spot-on there Detritus21.

 

I shall have a look at the other meters mentioned.
