the first attempt!!

hi all, thought i'd post my first carving, im hoping ill get quicker as this took me 6 hours!! [ with lots of tea breaks!!] whats best to use for burning the wood for shading etc? i tried oxy/acetolene but only have a huge cutting torch so that was a bit much!! then tried diy type blowlamp but that was too slow!! all advice as ever is greatly appreciated

its oak [i think!!] the peice of wood i found in the log pile helped towards its end shape, a piece of trunk that had already had 2 big limbs cut off at the right sort of angle! i kinda had an idea how i wanted it but the rest came from sheer luck i think, i was worried about making 1 cut too big so i trimmed lots of little bits until i ended up with this!! im pleased with it, waiting for a quiet day to start the next 1 now!!! cheers
