  1. Hi all, first time posting on this forum. I'm rebuilding a 2007 stihl ms880. Saved it from the scrap. The history of the saw is it's been used for 2 months, then sat on a shelf for years. Then when using for the first time, the piston popped and since then has been condemned. I don't like seeing fixable tools been thrown away so I jumped at the task to give it a shot and rebuild. At first glance I thought a new piston was all it needs but further inspection need to change the crankshaft bearings, seals, gasket and new cylinder head. I've bought £150 in parts, but from further inspection it Could potentially cost another £450 My plan was to use the saw for milling. My question is, is it worth me to continue with the build with the potential it not work at all. Or should I just sell it for spares Cheers 👍
  2. Just got a new laser in the workshop. Didn't realise it was so big and there isn't room to operate my sauno kiln. Unfortunately it's very heavy and as I don't have any means of moving it, I am having to break it up. In the new year I will be listing my ms880 and two 50 inch bars along with my Alaskan mill rails for a 50 inch set up and a few chains. Another reason for stopping milling is that I am having to do it on my own now as my logging mate had a heart attack a few years ago and rarely has the time to do any milling. I got into Alaskan milling back in 2000 and having done in now for 20 years, at the age of 57, I have to be a bit more careful of things like my back.
  3. Can anyone advise please? I recently bought an HD filter as a spare for my 880(2007)which included a foam insert. The filter that came with the saw is green and doesn't have the foam insert(just fine mesh?). I took the green filter off to clean it and noticed quite a bit of fine dust had bypassed the fine filter. No holes in it etc. I don't use the saw a great deal at all and only for milling the odd bit. I replaced the Filter the new hd2 filter(with green foam insert)for quickness but it just wasn't running right as seemed not to be getting enough air and bogging down when cutting. Spoke to a local tree surgeon who said its a problem with the Stihls? I also read somewhere to take the box off and have the filter sitting on the outside uncovered? Any idea how best to proceed or suggestions on filters would be much appreciated. I could do without a blocked/nackered carb if poss. Sorry haven't got pics but found a couple on line and just hoped someone might know what I'm on about. Thankyou.
  4. I'm selling my MS880 and 48" Alaskan mill as well as some chains and a spare bar. All good condition. Have a look on ebay or PM me for details. Cheers (PS I hope this isn't against any rules!)
