I'm fairly new to tree climbing and I have a mentor who has taught me SRT on a hitch climber pulley with a hitch and rope wrench, using canopy and base anchors. I've been practicing limbwalks on my own and have encountered debilitating resistance from the rope wrench when trying to feed slack. Every couple steps I take I have to use two hands to collapse the wrench on top of the hitch to allow myself another few inches of slack. Pulling slack back in is especially difficult. On straight vertical descents, with a little bounce to get the momentum going, the rope flows through the wrench as I would expect it to. The rope wrench I have is the newest edition which Ive been told has a larger diameter slick pin than the old edition and this leaves a smaller space for the rope to pass through. My climbing line is a 12mm Kernmaster and I weigh 135 lbs/61 kilos. The feedback I have got from another forum suggests trying a thinner diameter rope, something in the 11-11.6mm range. This is helpful, but don't plan to buy a completely new rope. Others say to try out the Hitchhiker. My mentor said to ask on forums for an older model of the rope wrench with the thinner slick pin. I wanted to gather some input from ArbTalk and ask if anyone does have an older rope wrench or hitchhiker they are willing to sell or trade?

At the 3ATC climbing comp at Cragside I was shown a climbing system using a schwäbisch, pulley, karabiners and a stein strop. It was set up so it was self tending and you could move the hitch closer for branch walks etc or further away for ascending quickly. Thought it was a great system but I can't remember what it was called Not a great description but does anyone have any ideas??

Ive just gone out and brought The tree climbers companion ive been reading through all its packed with information i find it a really good read. I Had a go at a few knots in it and i actually tried out the traditional climbing system. I didnt climb as i dont have a harness yet i just put it on a low crotch and leant back holding the working end. Is it just me or when you pull on the running end and slide the blakes hitch friction knot up it moves, but if you pull back on the working end it does not move, so theoretically could you climb with just the climbing system and a harness then be suspended up the tree without sliding down? Without any additional stoppers or ascenders? -
Hi all, just bought myself a yale imori 12mm and thought i'd try out both 8mm and 10mm ocean polyester cords to see how they both work with it. i climb with a hitchclimber and a distal on top, but FOOLISHLY forgot that i bought my last friction cord from the last trade show in chicester and the nice lad at treeworker cut me off an extra foot above 2 metres. so the issue is i thought i could make a distal out of 1 metre and inevitably its turned out about 10cm too short. obviously it wouldnt be the end of the world to chuck out the two cords, but it got me thinking it wouldn't be a terrible idea to find a knot that would work well on top a hitchclimber that you can tie out of 1 metre to save hassle in future any knot pros with any ideas?

i cant remember the name for the srt friction knot used with that realy long friction line. can anyone help?
