  12. Hi everyone, hows it. Just got back from a lekker trip in South Africa to visit my girlfriends family. Could anyone provide me with some hard facts/truths regarding potential opportunities to work within the Arb industry for a Brit in SA?! Love to hear from saffas or anyone else which has also tried to do so. Currently have 3 years experience with majority of the NPTC tickets and also my IRATA level 1 rope access. Thanks In advance.
  13. Hi all and happy new year, I hope you would be willing to give me some advice. To start I’ll lay out my background. I am a 29 year old hard working and motivated guy, I live on the Isle of Wight. My background is in farming, I qualified in 2012 with various machinery and spraying tickets, I went onto work for some major farming companies operating big machinery in Lincolnshire and Hampshire, having returned back to the island I went onto be a countryside ranger for a local charity, and expanded my knowledge. In 2021 I went back to college on an intensive arborist course, qualified with Cs 30, 31, 38, 39, chipper, mewp and first aid +f a couple of months after that I did my Cs32. I had a break to do other things but I have now been climbing for the past 3 months, I have my own climbing kit, saws and ppe maintained to a high standard. I arrive on time and fit for work, motivated and with a good work ethic, have my own vehicle and can tow if needed. I have a lot still to learn but I am keen to pick up as much knowledge as I can, and to do further tickets. My Question to you all is what should my day rate be? One for climbing and one as a groundie/ rescue climber. With the view of ongoing investment in gear, saws and training. I will add that I am asking this question because I have been climbing for a local company that I feel (this is an opinion only) doesn’t value me. I appreciate those who have taken the time to read my post and value your opinions, experience and knowledge. Thanks John

  15. Hi all, I'm looking for forestry work, training, or any role that's more specialised from my current grounds maintenance experience. Which consists of 6 years operating cyclindar, rotary, pedestrian mowers, industrial strimmers & cutters, spraying (unlicenced & supervised), pitch marking, and all general maintenance duties. Handled business estates, schools, parks, roadside hedge rows, flower beds, grass fields, verges, embankments, and feature flower abd shrub beds on roundabouts. Looking to move into forestry/ranger/conservation/regeneration work, or other specialist botanical/arborist roles in order develop further skills/qualifications and face new challenges. I've also several years hobbiest experience in bonsai, so there's some knowledge on the sciencey stuff regarding tree maintenance and health. CV & Contact info available on request. And can start immediately. (Unfortunately no drivers licence though, looking to go for the lessons and test once in stable employment) Thanks for reading! Any questions or suggestions on the above, then feel free to comment and we'll pick up from there! Best wishes, Kevin

  17. Hi all, I've been rock climbing for the past couple of years and now need a change in careers. I was looking at getting into tree work but had a bunch of questions about it all. I'm also doing my IRATA separately to this. I'm based in the EU but not in Germany itself. I know I've asked a lot but any answers woule be appreciated? What certifications and requirements to work as an arborist in Germany? I'm learning German but I'm not far along. How much of a problem is this? Is most arborist work freelance work? Do I need to have my own equipment? If so, what equipment is that? What is the general pay range? Does anyone have any company to direct me to once I've done the qualifications? Any other advice or pieces of guidance? Thanks!
