  2. Desperate for a manifold clamp. The metal snap ring that secures the boot to the cylinder. Anyone selling one? Tried all the usual sellers on line and non in stock.
  3. That is where I saw it. It’s 12 inch limbs mainly that I asking for. Obviously the bigger stuff gets done kneeling with as short a bar as I can get away with.
  4. Black and white of it is no then. And it’s all to do with spinning that long chain. Thanks for the replies.
  5. hence the question about a long bar
  6. Definitely not trolling, I wanting to understand why it’s such a no no. I get using a small saw with a big bar for big cuts puts stress on the engine akin to putting a giant propeller on a small outboard. But does pulling a long chain on its own stress the saw? The logs I get are dumped on the floor so once they are cut up they get split and stacked. Putting them in a horse sounds like another job and one my back wouldn’t be particularly enamoured with.
  7. Just wanted the mechanical side of the reason why. Cheers.
  8. On what grounds? Is it just the inertia of the long chain stressing the saw?
  9. I’m 6 foot 4 and much prefer to cut long lengths up on the floor for firewood, instead of humping them into some cutting rack. Providing you were just using the first 8 inch or so of a bar, could a 40 50cc saw cope with a 24 inch bar or is just pulling the bar alone too much stress on a saw of that size. I get the fact I could kneel down but would prefer to stand up.

    Sorted.
  11. Cheers. Are most saws the same on the crank and fly wheel? Eg is a 372 m10 and m8 fine thread? Are stihl the same? the crank got a couple of whacks with a copper mallet. I thought the same. I’m not thrutching a case together on six small bolts.
  12. Case back together. Made a special puller. M16 threaded bar with a tapped hole in either end. One to suit the fly side one the clutch side. Spin the bar onto the side you’re doing, slide on the sleeve and put the little bolt in the side hole. Put a m16 nut on and whilst gripping the small bolt to stop it spinning, turn the big nut to push the sleeve down, effectively drawing the crank into the bearing.
  13. The pale stuff is ash and the bit with the bark on that looks brown in the photos is oak.
  14. Why do they paint the inside of the crank case? Was going to fit the bearings in a 346 and noticed paint flaking off in the crankcase. I want it all off so I don’t get any bits of paint in the transfers, between the cylinder or anywhere else. Do I re paint or leave it bare? I’m thinking bare.
