  1. On what grounds? Is it just the inertia of the long chain stressing the saw?
  2. I’m 6 foot 4 and much prefer to cut long lengths up on the floor for firewood, instead of humping them into some cutting rack. Providing you were just using the first 8 inch or so of a bar, could a 40 50cc saw cope with a 24 inch bar or is just pulling the bar alone too much stress on a saw of that size. I get the fact I could kneel down but would prefer to stand up.
  3. Cheers. Are most saws the same on the crank and fly wheel? Eg is a 372 m10 and m8 fine thread? Are stihl the same? the crank got a couple of whacks with a copper mallet. I thought the same. I’m not thrutching a case together on six small bolts.
  4. Case back together. Made a special puller. M16 threaded bar with a tapped hole in either end. One to suit the fly side one the clutch side. Spin the bar onto the side you’re doing, slide on the sleeve and put the little bolt in the side hole. Put a m16 nut on and whilst gripping the small bolt to stop it spinning, turn the big nut to push the sleeve down, effectively drawing the crank into the bearing.
  5. The pale stuff is ash and the bit with the bark on that looks brown in the photos is oak.
  6. Why do they paint the inside of the crank case? Was going to fit the bearings in a 346 and noticed paint flaking off in the crankcase. I want it all off so I don’t get any bits of paint in the transfers, between the cylinder or anywhere else. Do I re paint or leave it bare? I’m thinking bare.

    346xp piston

Hi. Does anyone have a new ne 346 xp piston they are selling. Tried finding a meteor one but non available and I don’t want to put a cheap piston in. Nor do I want to pay oem prices.
  9. Yes the lobes. Everything rotated freely and seems to be good but it looks strange.
  10. Loads of lateral play here too
  11. Is this normal? Looks strange to me.
  12. Oh and the pinion was missing and I found a needle from the clutch needle bearing embedded in all the dross under the clutch cover.
  13. The piston is scored. The cylinder gasket is knackered. That bad I couldn’t pressure test the saw. Despite a new gasket and diaphragm the carb looses pressure very slowly and it’s bubbling from the bottom where the new gasket is. Hoping when it’s full of fuel the leak will stop. The exhaust has no gasket on it. It looks like it was never cleaned. Compacted duct and oil everywhere. Full rebuild from the crank bearings up.
  14. Am I reading the serial number right? 2008 model?
