Most of the snowboard boots with Boa systems have two dials. One on the front that does the top and one on the side that does the lower half. So you can get a really nice fit. Not seen any Arb versions with this, most likely because the bottom dial wouldn’t work with spikes/ascenders etc.

Because they have 800 venues and a huge distribution network. Therefore they can order kegs in huge volumes and be guaranteed to shift them, thus they get them at massively discounted rates. your local village pub orders one barrel a week through a distributor aka a middleman, so gets charged their cut aswell. If it’s not through a distributor they get tied into a contract with one supplier, who might give them £10k cash upfront and some branded furniture. But then they can only order from them, at inflated prices. £5/6 a pint once they’ve bought the barrel and paid someone to pour it, is them making 10/20p per pint profit if their lucky.

Had a pair of the Pfanner Boas last year. Great boots if you’re on the ground. Not so great if you’re climbing most of the time. The mechanism gets rubbed on branches etc and eventually the wire will break. Which is what happened to mine. You get lifetime warranty with Boa which is good so they will send you replacements free of charge. however eventually one of the plastic eyele loops came apart from the boot stitching. Not a replaceable part so that was the end off them. they dominate the snowboard market and most of the new boots have the BOA system. Have a pair for snowboarding and wouldn’t go back to laces. But the wear and tear is completely different in our industry. I’d recommend them for Groundies. But not for climbers.

What’s even more of a pain is arriving to your yard in a morning to find your chipper gone. It takes 5 seconds to push a chipper inside a container. It’s a two man job which we do every evening. Or for the times I’m alone we have a battery winch set up inside the rear of the container and I use that to pull it in on some spare climbing line. That’s about 30 seconds. I second what Mick said. I’d just add that you want a box welding onto the lock of the container door so that once the padlocks on you can’t get an angle grinder on it. I’d also park your trailers in front of the container doors and put a wheel lock on them so they can’t be moved. Just an added layer of security to stop them getting in the container quickly.

That rope and Cousin Atrax both have very narrow spliced eyes as they're designed to fit through devices like the Petzl Zig Zag. If you’ve ever tried fitting a rope through one you will appreciate it. They need to be flat to fit. If they were any larger they wouldn’t pass through the device. That being said if you’re in any doubt to it’s integrity then don’t use it. Send it back and ask for a replacement. There’s been some recent examples of splicing being done incorrectly on some Marlow Lines which caused them to fail in use. There’s video of it somewhere.

It’s a 5 day course that will teach you everything you need to know in order to pass. If you’re got previous climbing experience you will be fine. -
£25k is basically minimum wage. So I wouldn’t class that as really decent money. All depends on your financial circumstances so everyone is different. I came from a £40k a year salary when I switched. Which I thought was decent money. But that had a ceiling. Was impossible to earn more than that. This industry doesn’t have a ceiling. But it does have a cellar. If you’re self employed and can’t find work then you could earn **************** all. the point is there are easier ways to make money. As I think someone stated earlier you could earn £25k stacking shelves. So don’t get into this industry thinking you’re going to be making £100k a year. If you want them lofty sums go be a bricklayer…apparently…

I couldn’t agree more. If you want to pursue a new career mate don’t let some miserable old blokes on a forum tell you it’s not a good idea. Can you earn more money in a different trade? Sure, but comparing salaries with other trades is pointless. If he wanted to be a bricklayer he wouldn’t be on here. Comparison is the thief of joy. Plenty of people in this industry who are earning great money and they didn’t all start at 18 and work for 20 years before turning a profit. If you want to do it. Do it.

Went ahead with the quote with RBG. Dropped it Wednesday and it was finished by the following Tuesday. Changed my original spec and had a few extras added. Very happy with the end result. The only negative I would say is there were a lot of 2 inch shards from the rivets left strewn amongst the chassis. Could have easily given me or someone else a puncture. Also lots of filed shards of metal. Would take 5 mins with a compressor to blow them out before a client arrives. Other than that I can’t fault the process or the end result.

Nobody is going to offer you work from this post when you’ve got no experience and no tickets mate. Ring up your local firms and offer to do a couple shifts for free. If you’re willing and hard working they might take you on for the odd shift so you can get an insight into the industry before you spend £££££ on all them tickets. good luck 🤞🏼

So got some quotes back from RBG. £4.5k with Vat. Much more appetising than the £6880 plus VAT from B L Searle. Only issue now is finding somewhere to get the canopy removed down to chassis. Anyone know anywhere close to Manchester that can do it. It has auxiliary battery and power points plus beacons that controlled from inside the cab so not just a case of taking it off.

My 2p on the topic would be to go travel the world mate. You’ve got skills and experience and most importantly age on your side. You can set up your own business when you’re 30. What’s the rush to do it now? As much as I applaud the drive and ambition which is lacking from most people your age nowadays, if I was in your shoes I’d be heading to Aus to earn double the money. Go broaden your skills and enjoy your 20s.

More often than not I delete them and don’t think twice. But the language in this one made me think if it was from a number that I maybe hadn’t saved. Cheers @Mark Bolam and @Treetom15. Seems that price is the going rate nowadays. Mines also a Hilux Extra Cab so your spec is basically what I’m after. It’s not a cheap option but shes only done 70k miles so I don’t mind spending the money if I can 5+ years out of her.
