  1. Here's a log I have split and it's been in the house for a week.
  2. Burnt a bit of this in my log burner, has to sit inside a good while to dry out now as it's like a sponge. Wondering what it even is. Absolute pain in the arse to split as well with a maul.
  3. I did actually think of a getting one of these diesel heaters for heating the garage through the winter and drying out gear etc. Not sure how well it'd dry out logs as well if they're in there at the same time. To be exact this is the same kind of vents I have to the right of the door and at the rear of the garage.
  4. It has tiny little 6x2 inch openings for venting air in and out the garage but I'm guessing this will never be enough 😂 I'm in it every day and night to be fair, just don't fancy taking up all that space in the garage for logs that aren't going to burn well enough.
  5. In my front garden there's not much space so I was thinking of devoting half my garage to storing it. Obviously it will be covered with little air flow. Will this still dry out OK within a summer or so?
  6. I've an endless supply of sitka and some larch and I've heard both Sitka being one of the longest to season and read up online and others say it is one of the quickest to season I.E 6 months or so. Looking for info on who is right as I'd like to heat my house on Sitka with it being free.
  7. Yeah if I were to buy one I'd like to be out at least once or twice a month with it. I'm just wondering if there's much of a market for it, I only cut in the woods so it would be for the likes of fallen trees/logs lying around needing split. I understand tree firms can provide the whole shabang from takedown to processing the logs so that's my only concern is will there be much work for it
  8. I'm after a towable splitter. Been looking at the Venom 12 tonne ones for around 1400. I'm looking to use it for my own stuff but at the same time hopefully earn money from it when I'm not cutting on weekends etc. I've seen a few people on market place offering log splitting services for around 25 per hour although I'm not sure if it is viable? located Scottish Borders.
  9. I work for a forestry company in Scotland and I've heard that they pay someone 5 GBP a chain to sharpen there chains for the harvesters. I was thinking of saving up to get myself a CNC sharpener in the next year or two and starting off on my own whilst cutting 5 days a week also. Has anybody any info on what to buy?
  10. I am looking for spikes to screw into the soles of my Haix Trekkers. I see Haix have a set og spikes but was looking to get some to cover the whole sole instead of just the bit before the heel. Has anyone any recommendations?
  11. i've been told this is chestnut, I'm looking at making it into a coffee table. Roughly how long would this take to dry in my garage enough to plane/sand etc?
  12. Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking 😂
  13. It would be a FB marketplace/cash sort of deal as I'll be taking scraps off of site etc. Don't think I'd be selling two cube at a time.
  14. Can you sell unseasoned firewood if you state very clearly it is unseasoned? I've not got the space to dry out large quantities of wood as of yet. It will be mainly split larch and sitka.
  15. I've got a mixture of soft wood and hardwood that I've got off of jobs since starting out and I've been wondering how long it would take to be able to burn (I know different species, different times) if I had a log store in my living room by the log burner for drying? I'll be using it a lot this year so would like to hopefully dry even more out whilst using it.
  16. It definitely doesn't just get paid off
  17. Recently started as a cutter in the woods and was wondering who people are using for life/injury insurance. And how much should I be expecting to pay? I've a fair size mortgage and family so it'd be good to have that piece of mind
  18. Looking for chain oil and two stroke oil. Currenty got an ms261 that I'll be using for my course but looking to buy 5L or so tubs so I have plenty in the future when I get started.
  19. Got the washer etc sorted at Border Chainsaw today and ordered an 18 inch bar and chain for it. Where's best to buy two stroke oil and chain oil?
  20. Taking a bit of a guess here but here's a video. Does it sound a bit off to you when idling? IMG_2257.MOV
  21. The longer video is it running with the chain brake on. Not an expert with saws, doing my courses end of the month so completely new to me. But that sounds strange when the brake is on. But it doesn't stall... Also is there a certain type of 2 stroke oil/chain oil I should be using with this saw or will any chainsaw oil do well?
  22. IMG_2255.MOV IMG_2256.MOV
  23. Just got this and it looks like it's hardly been used. How much is it worth? IMG_2251.MOV
  24. Probably not the right place to post this but not sure where else. I keep finding what look like woodlice in my home dotted around the downstairs bedrooms etc. Was wondering if anyone here has ever had them and how they got rid of them?
  25. Some solid suggestions lads. I'll keep my eye out, cheers.
