  1. What about trailers? I've only a 1.5 diesel van so can only tow about 1-1.5 ton I think legally. I'd like a trailer that has sides and a roof on it so if I'm parked anywhere nobody knows really what is in it.
  2. That's a funny place for them to be taking a nap...
  3. Cutting leaners out in Loch Trool, 150 mile west of us. 300 round trip. Long day, steep ground but nice views. Used our new high lead winch to pull these in, as walk path and loch on the other side. Hemlock for the most of it. 6c2792f79c154d20a9ffe00e0f7e0396.mp4
  4. Aye it'd be more of a luxury really and wouldn't rely on it every day. Be grand for brashing around bits and a bit of a laugh. An aulder one would be mint. I'd like a Honda, had a 125 and a few Honda Preludes and gave them death and never broke!
  5. Aye. Sold on the idea like. would I be buying a dog rough quad for max 2K do yoy reckon?
  6. I'm a cutter and this year I'm looking at spending about 1-5-2.5 on a quad bike for getting about some sites etc. Does anybody use a quad on harvesting/clearfell sites? If so let me know how you get on with it and show me your set up etc if you've got photos. Just think it'd be grand for steep ground if you can get up and around the clearfell on farmers fields etc. Only heard of one guy around here having one, but I like the idea!
  7. Made a reel of a few old videos and another new one. 35e2b4b632cf4308b2375c566bcbf482.mp4
  8. Over size firewood today. Splitting oversize down to fit in a processor. Now that the fella I work for on weekends has this trailer takes away the need to hand ball it. 127a5ead6e8e40188756566e91c5355f.mp4
  9. I've bought them today so will see how they go. I'm sure it'll be better than no spikes/rubber soles. Cost me 400 pound, can't really complain. They were 280 for the vibram ones. Here's a video taken off my work mates phone the other day as well. cb9f6da5-7b78-4f45-8c19-ea149d503286.mp4

    Coms

I have the technical Husqvarna hard hat and was looking to get coms for when I'm brashing/felling and soon to be high leading. For music when brashing etc. Looking at these Husky ones but I'm not actually sure if this has the mic or if it comes seperate. Any recommendations? Will be used for forestry work
  11. Get it just for that mate. You'll find info on there, more than what's here. This forum is mainly arborists and tree surgeon, that page I've sent you is just full of forestry cutters and loads of stuff on there. Well worth it.
  12. I pmed you @Roebus about an FB page.
  13. I think I'm just gonna buy these by the end of summer. Sick of falling over every log I walk across 😂
  14. @Spruce Pirate @slack ma girdle Looking to screw in spikes into my Haix boots. Tried fishing wader spikes and they all fell out. Do you guys use anything? Either that or I'll bite the bullet one day and order these...
  15. This doesn't half get a hold when jacking. Class well worth it
  16. Hahaha. Welded up some 1 inch mesh onto my plate. See if that will get a better hold on the butt of the log. Here's one of 25 outsiders I had to sned out today. Didn't fell them just there to sned...
  17. Cut my jack seat badly today and this happened. Harvester even struggled to push it over haha
  18. We go as far up as Erskine Bridge ways Auchentourlie, and Dumfries and Galloway and Argyll (not yet been to Bute but it will come. Apparently the wood is amazing). Can you send a photo of the top of your plate mate?
  19. Photos never do it justice. It doesn't look that hairy in the photo but I bet it was heavy 😂 I've seen a few people weld mesh onto there plates so it gets a right good hold of the butt, have you ever seen that? @Spruce Pirate Also where are you cutting about in the UK?
  20. Hardhead wedges or Stubai wedges. Check out Chris Forestry on Google. He has everything on there
  21. Fair enough my Stihl one fits into mine. What wedges are they?
  22. Some days are grand and feel like an absolute king and other days you just want to throw the saw in the van and head. But that's like any other job really haha. Defos worth putting the 600 quid for the windblow course towards a saw and getting some work. First saw I'd say get a 562XPG. They're a little soft but they can do everything, brash, fell steep ground and they will fell outside edge trees if you aren't afraid to ring it's neck. Great for snedding and it's light as. Good starter saw and 2 years warranty. Only posting here because I was the same until I got a start, and I was useless when I first started and aw the boys I work with probably will say I still am. 😂
  23. Wouldn't bother doing wind blow course until you've got on with big trees and know your way around a saw. Been handcutting 6 months in forestry in Scotland and don't have my windblow ticket yet but done a bit of cutting them off the stump etc but doesn't seem to be a big demand for the ticket at money company as we have harvesters etc. A lot of forestry/saw work is a thing called 'brashing' which really is boring but it's fairly easy. Not always felling trees. Made a million mistakes so far and will probably make a million more as always learning. Good job to be in though, worth doing. Bit common for me to be doing at least 40 miles to work then 40 back, sometimes 100 then 100 back in a day. You will ruin a van, spend a lot of saws, tickets, ppe and diesel. If you are doing it solely for money then don't bother. You have to want to do it and have a big interest in doing it otherwise there really is not much point as things are so expensive. Just my thoughts after 6-7 months doing so. HW Training are good as well. Did my small trees with them.
  24. One from the day.
