  1. Minimum 1 hour on shitty back roads. Sometimes up to 150/4.5 hours there and 4.5 back with 8 on the saw. One of the times I wonder why we even do it 😂
  2. My bad I've only just seen this. Aye it was. Still on the cards but in the future... half the jobs I'm on are far too steep and a total mess. Here's a flat site for today, one of the trees were 1.4m at the butt. Felled with a 18 inch bar. Not the one in the photo though.
  3. Is it your main source of work?
  4. Suppose it depends. I think he's happy to not have to saw it up himself!
  5. I'm going to buy an Oregon chain grinder as I've got a few firewood processor guys needing chains sharpened. Some 30 at a time, at 4 quid a chain. Easy number for in the garage at nights. I'm honestly so confused as to what the difference in spec int hese two chain grinders apart from appearance. Can anyone tell me? Maybe I'm misreading something Oregon 620-230 Hydraulic Assist Chain Grinder (previously 542654) WWW.PREMIUMSAWCHAIN.CO.UK Oregon 620-230 Hydraulic Assist Chain Grinder (previously 542654) https://www.amazon.co.uk/620-230-Professional-Sharpener-Hydraulic-Assistance/dp/B078K4879W Also if anyone has an experience with these and what stones to buy that'd be grand
  6. Tbf I literally just cut the rings and leave them where they are in a big pile. I don't lift them if I don't need to.
  7. @topchippyles And as you know. Firewood equals dirt and all the other shite of the day! 😂
  8. Normally 230 for that far but don't use as much fuel etc. Saws are never off.
  9. This is the one I was thinking of buying.
  10. Another week done another 1000 thoughts on how to make more money. Becoming a curse this. Me and my cutting partner were talking the other day there speaking about how to make some passive income or at least semi passive. What is the score with renting out a log splitter? No operator. Is there certain insurances you need in place? I was looking at the Venom series. The road towable one.
  11. Yup. My cuts aren't all bang on 8 inches but I always aim for just below. Am I charging enough for one man non stop cutting basically from 8-4 280 pound. I'll be doing a bit more come Monday 8-5 and will be charging around 315-320. Would be good to know as I'd like to see about getting more work doing it as if's a piece of cake and a lot easier than felling trees so it's a nice break.
  12. The guys in the yard most of the time if he isn't delivering etc. He hates using a saw and cutting logs, hence why he pays me to do it. So I doubt he will want to tie his day up
  13. Leave them where they land really in this case. Normally pile more lengths on top of the rounds (not my idea its a pain in the arse) then trip over them all day basically
  14. At the moment I just cut and he dozes it with the forklift. Love the graft but I ain't lifting nothing. 😂 I just cut that's all.
  15. Found this in my phone here from a few months ago. 😂 Brashing turns into felling outsiders and a van full of wedges that's a mile away
  16. This is the average size of timber I'm ringing up. Last photo is about a 10th of what he has in the yard now, and is getting more
  17. Aye I'm about 240 after you take off my diesel and petrol etc but that is grand. He probably won't buy a grab so I won't be that lucky. I'd just like some idea just to make it easier. He has a forklift to clear me out afterwards, I was thinking of 3 logs oversize as a base work bench, firewood lengths going the opposite way and cut away and throw off to the side when in the middle. Was going to suggest to him I could make a forklift tyne attachment angles plough out of H beam for clearing out timber. Right now he just uses a log as a plough and it is shite
  18. He has just bought probably another 10 artic loads of oversize hardwood. Some of it's disgusting but yeah. Good with the bad and all... easy day just cutting logs.
  19. Think the boy I cut for would have a heart attack at making something like that. Tight arse @Mark Bolam what were you charging a day for cutting it? That looks handy that
  20. I'm cutting firewood for a company. Tarmac on the ground and it's annoying hitting it 1-2 times a day etc and don't like cutting off fork lift tynes. I was thinking of setting 3 oversize logs going straight forward as a sort of work bench and laying the timber lengths the opposite way and cutting it that way. Has anybody else got any better ideas? Photos appreciated. I'm 6'7 so anything quick and easy that will stop me from stooping all day. Also, how much in tonneage do you normally cut in an hr day on the saw? I did 20 ton or so within about 6 hours and wondering if I should be doing more. The guy is happy enough with it but can always try for more. Cutting with 572/585 20/28 inch bar.
  21. A mix of Dumfries and Hyndlee/Scottish Borders.

  23. Mainly soft wood cutting in Scotland in forestry. I'm very inexperienced in hardwoods as we normally leave them as there's not much left here. All Sitka, pine and larch
  24. Aye. Always wanting to make more that's my bother. Maybe I'll stick to cutting as everyone here has nothing really good to say about it. Glad I asked tbf!!
