  1. Here's some other stuff I'm not sure about aswel. It's very hard whatever it is...
  2. Any idea what type of wood this is? Its freshly cut and seems very dry and has a bit of weight to it....
  3. I have a homelite petrol saw that I use if I'm out in a field somewhere. But when I'm home cutting logs I use a Makita battery saw. It's great. I have 4 5ah batteries and 2 3ah batteries. Double charger is a must. In-between letting batteries charge I do a bit of chopping and stacking. With the occasional chain sharpen. I already had the batteries with work tools so thought it was the cheapest solution for me. There's possibly better battery saws about than Makita. But it does the job for me.
  4. I've been burning a bit of hawthorn recently and that is a nice slow burner leaving good coals. Might be worth a try to keep in at night. I put on a shovel full of smokeless coal at night and the stove is still hot in the morning. The glass stays clean which I believe is a good sign?
  5. You need a system to get a year ahead. I have 4 pallet crates that paving slabs come in. I put next season's wood in them split and stacked. Covered top with sheet of ply to keep worst of rain off. Leaving the sides open. Once dry enough they'll go on the pallet in the garage. This year's dry/ready to burn wood is on a pallet stacked up in the garage. I've then got two log stores which are full of seasoned wood. One at front of house and one out back. The one out the front gets topped up from the garage. The one out the back will be emptied first then filled up with anymore green wood I collect and left to dry. Luckily I enjoy collecting, chopping and stacking wood 🪓👍🤣 So personally I'd get it chopped and stacked asap.
  6. Good shout That's from Google Street view of the tree...
  7. Yes I'm not bothered as I burn anything that's seasoned. Just thought I had got a bit better at identifying trees in log form lol
  8. Would you say that this is ash or oak? (From a different site)
  9. It's bloody heavy for sure
  10. Hello everyone hope your all well. Just picked up some logs and was wondering what they are. Thanks

Cord wood or disced logs please. No chippings Thanks
  12. Where did you get this info from? I was hopping to find one with less petcoke and phosphorus in it
  13. Looking again stove master sounds good as it hasn't got any petcoke in it? I'll try and find out a bit more
  14. I've used superheat from housefuels. I went half's on a pallet with my neighbor a few years back. Still have 3 bags on the garage lol. I just use it to keep it in at night when it's really cold outside. My Mrs will be at home more this winter with baby so think it'll be easier for her to use smokeless than logs all the time. I like logs as I get them free. Has anyone tried burnrite? They claim to kick out more heat and less ash...
  15. I use a fiskars XXL builders axe. It's a beast 😂
  16. Hi just wondering what these logs could be? Just out of curiosity Thanks
  17. I know mate. But the insurance want a certificate of it being swept apparently. The sweep also said you should change your log burner every 10 years!? I wish I was there when he came round!
  18. Its got 270mm clearance to top of stove. The flue is well clear of beam and has a concrete lintel between the beam and flue. What if I was to screw a piece of cement board to the bottom of the beam?
  19. Think the beam is at least 300mm from the top of the burner. It is a bit of a beast. It's at least a 10kw I'd say. But the room is big and has stair case in it so heat does go up the stairs and onto the landing. It needs signing off as the house has been renovated. I know that the beam would never catch fire from the log burner. It passed the test of time I'd say!
  20. Well this is what I said lol. He was recommended by a friend. But what he failed to say is he ended up replacing 3 log burners and all installed by him! 🤔
  21. Merry Christmas everyone My parents have had a log burner in there house for 35 years. New sweep came in and condemned it as the Oak beam is to close. And the burner is too big for the room!? He tried selling a new burner and install etc. Anyway to solve a problem that's never been a problem, could I screw a sheet of non combustible material to the bottom of the offending beam? Just to please a concerned sweep? Cheers Josh
