Back again
My trusty cheap Macallister 115mm has finally died today and been looking immediately for another Grinder, as i use them a lot.
My question is what is better to use when sanding carvings, my last one was a push switch, but some people say paddle would be better but im unsure, as i was happy with the toggle switch for sanding, I do have a bigger grinder which i use for other things like cutting metal, which is more suited to a paddle switch imo.
Any recommendations? i want it corded, and under £80 ideally, 115mm or 125mm? i usually use 115mm but if 125mm is better i dont mind.
thanks

yeah i noticed a few of the batter have that style, but without the drum. yeah i dont think i have the skills, might just have to keep i as a back up saw or just sell it on

Stere - so does that mean, any of those makes listed i can get a 1/4 inch sprocket that will fit them, will fit my battery chainsaw to?

cheers gobby, he hasnt got it listed, unsuprisingly, so will contact him

Hey peeps, hope everyone is doing well and carving is going well, been a while since ive been on here.
A long shot this but ill try, I have a Cramer 40v chainsaw, has worked well for a cheap saw, so ended up getting another one as it worked out in a deal.
Anyway im thinking of putting a dime tip bar on the new one, unfortunately i have no idea where to start on where to get a sprocket to fit this saw? Was wondering if anyone has any experienced with this saw, or a battery chainsaw in general. I think they are compatible with Greenworks saws to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Cheers mate, tried it out yesterday. It seems to be working fine, but might need to check more thoroughlyas I couldn't really tell if they were protruding.

@wisewood it's a Stihl m170, been looking at one for such a long time that I finally got one. Cool, ok, so so you usually use an standard bar to do your bore cutting with?
Couple of drive links, as in the distance from the bar right?

Hey there.
I haven't had experience in using a dime tip bar yet. But just waiting for my new chainsaw to come in the post with a dime tip bar on it (very excited 😁) Was wondering if they are easier to cut through when you plunge cut into wood, compared to your standard bar?
Also how loose should the chain be on a dime tip bar, heard so.nahybsaybto have it really loose but how loose is loose? 🤣

Hi there,
Ive lost one of the nuts that hold the bar in place, I'm trying to find a replacement but not sure what type and side I need. Are they all standard thread size?
Cheers

What would you use a power file for mainly?
@gobbypunkNo I know the pad screws on to the grinder. I just meant the actual grit pads are hook and loop?
-
Are these backing pads hook and loop design like a random orbital sander? Won't they come off at the speed that a grinder goes?
-
Cheers lads. I'll have a look out for those klingspor fibre discs then. If you say they're good.
@gobbypunk, I don't think I'm at that good yet. I've literally just started, done a dodgy mushroom and some Halloween pumpkins that's about it. But thanks for the offer 👍

Ok cool, I have a 4.5 inch grinder, but not a backing pad. Been using those flap grit sander on mine, but they do plug up quickly.
What's the filling sanded?

Hi there
I've just started getting into carving, I've got two chainsaws now, one 40 and the other 46cc. I'm waiting to get a smaller one with a carving bar on. But was wondering what's the minimum of tools you need to get going with carving, to make them look vaguely good. I watch these YouTube guys and they have, die grinders, normal disc grinders, dremels, flame torches, gougers and so on.
Do I need all these? Or what is the minimum I need for budget conscious, but still wanting the carvings to look half decent?
Thanks

My only experience of an oleo mac was years ago when working with my old man,he bought one and after a month we had loads of trouble with it not running right,in the end we were working on a roadside and one morning it wouldn,t start so he grabbed it and smashed shit out of it on the road, jumped in the truck and off we went and bought two new Husky,s,not relevant to the thread but always makes me smile,he was a short tempered chap my old man
Haha ??. Not a fan of them myself they're ok. But the guy down the road sells them, so my old man just goes to him for the ease of it. Had some problems but that's more for to the fact of my old man not looking after them properly over the years. ?

Excellent cheers lads. Feel a bit thick now as I usually try and Google everything! ? Oh well you live and learn ?

Hi I've found an Oregon chain. I've measured it as a .325 pitch chain with 66 links. What I don't know is it's gauge. How do I find this out?
It's got 21 written on the gauges.. I doubt that means anything though.
Do I need a special measuring instrument just to see the gauge?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Dan
I'll stick to .325 then. These chains will only fit standard bars then i take it? I've it wouldn't take a quarter bar for example?
-
I see. Well my old oleo Mac 946 was set up on a .325 chain so being 46cc that would fit with what your saying.
Can I change the 946 to a 3/8 lo pro on a 16" bar?
It's currently taking a .325 chain on a 20" bar.
Cheers lads
