I pay mine 100-120 a day for general labouring with a bit a hedgecutting etc.

But this year cant find anyone

What do you consider as general labouring? Arb groundy,  breaking  down  branches with a chainsaw, cross-cutting, dragging brash, feeding chipper, raking up. Stacking/ loading wood etc?

  2. Being paid for the hours on site and not starting and finishing in yard is complete row locks. If your travelling from home straight to site because it’s closer and easier for you then it’s site hours. Same for subbies, if they travel to yard and travel with the rest they’re paid as well as far as I’m concerned. Thought there was a shortage of decent workers - vote with your feet.

They stopped at the borders of Gibraltar, they did occupy the channel islands tho.

Russia was always slowed partly because of it being winter but also the difference in railway gauge, which still exists today I think.

Spain was neutral. There were no German offensive forces in Spain, only intelligence and covert operations such as U boat refuelling etc. they could not of invaded Gibraltar from a so- called Neutral country without dragging Spain into the conflict.

@peds it's not a shaky grasp of history, history is never binary and is down to interpretation, that's why we have historians.

Just because Germany went on a little corporate expansion didn't make it WW2, most of Europe was taken quickly until it came to the borders of the UK and Russia and it became apparent what was happening to dissenters and cleansing in the years following.

As I've said we live in a different world, it'll never happen again with social media.

Imagine Pinochet, Pol Pot, Franco, Mussolini today.

The German advance didn’t stop at the British border, it stopped at the moat called The English Channel. If there was no channel and a land border they would have rolled up the UK pretty fast. The German advance also didn’t stop at the Russian border - it got  to within 6 miles of Leningrad and 20 odd miles of Moscow. If the front line hadn’t moved faster and further from being re supplied they probably would have defeated the Russians. If they hadn’t of attacked Russia and concentrated on the UK we’d probably be reading this in German?

How come people are legally allowed to breed at 16, but aren't deemed mature enough to to vote at that age?

Yes you could. And then go on to be the deputy leader of the Labour Party🤔

An old boy who I used to beat with told me a lab is born half trained, a spaniel dies half trained. He wasn’t far off the mark. Just too big for what space I have.

He was right. Jack Russel, loyal, smart, small?

Although I’ve always admired Lurchers I don’t want a bigger dog, I’m told there are some Whippets due on a traveller camp in Kidderminster shortly, I’ll go for a look-see with caution, I don’t know the folk.

When you go and see them ask the thieving scum if they’ve sold my mates two terriers  they nicked from his garden. Wouldn’t buy anything from a pikey - just encourages them to steal more!

It’s 18 to deploy on active service as well he knows. Like the SNP the reasons are he knows fine well at that age they are more likely to be left leaning and yet to be earning decent coin and paying the higher rates of income tax. The sense of disappointment once people realise things won’t be that different regardless of who’s in will be a sight to see. Hopefully Starmer does not cause the utter carnage the previous Labour savour did.

Beat me to it when I was typing👍

Party leader says if you can work, pay tax and serve in armed forces you should be able to vote

As you’ve got to get parental consent to join military if under 18 will they have to ask their parents who they can vote for. Have to be over 18 to serve on the front line? A lot of under 18s are in full time education so arnt tax payers? - that was Labours idea to artificially lower employed no’s. So they’ve got that wrong haven’t they🤔

It may take time, but it's pretty easy to write a letter to ensure that a) the property owner removes the tree (to minimise their liability or b) allows access to remove the tree by the affected property owner. There may be some initial resistance but when faced with the reality of the liability very few resist for long.

Non of us know the exact details? subsidence is thought to be because of the oak tree? Who says? Just because branches overhang the boundary doesn’t mean the oak is close to the house does it. What is the distance of house from oak tree. No mention of any pro survey, no trial pits to find roots? Nothing, nada? A letter on its own is not enough to make the owner of tree remove it? It would require a full inspection, survey and report, plus owner of said tree could question quality/ standard of build of house in the first place. We don’t have enough facts and the op’s gone walkabout looking for the trees owner🤔

  11. It’s easy to let your heart rule your head over house purchases but I’m surprised you’re carrying on with the purchase to be honest? If you find the owner don’t expect any issue you have with the property to be sorted? Could take years - if ever to reach a solution and potentially £1000s in costs🤔

  12. Like most things a few phots might help? A piece 600mm diameter depending on length is going to be quite heavy. It will also deteriorate quickly so will have to be wrapped in netting wire to prevent anything dropping?

The consultant has specified what is to be done. No need to know why.

Apologies for having an inquisitive mind. But repositioning decaying poplar into another tree as habitat is bordering on complete bollocks. Go and source some oak with a hollow and it’ll last for years. What’s going to use a hollow in 600mm diameter lump of wood as habitat? A black bear?

what's best and quickest way to zero your scope?

just set target, fire, adjust and do it that way?

or have any of you tried using these? clamp it in, fire, then set scope to the point of impact!?

    thanks :thumbup1:

A bump from way back 🤔. Quickest way to zero a full bore rifle is to put your rifle on a bench or mound and hold firm with some shot bags or sand bags. Take bolt out and look down the barrel and adjust rifle onto the top of a stake or picket 100 - 150 metres away. When top of stake/ picket is centre of barrel adjust scope onto same point. You’ll then be able to send down a 3 shot group at 100 mts and adjust from that. I use 3 shots not 5 to adjust to save ammo then fire a 5 round group to confirm. If the Zulu’s are coming the first stage is enough to keep their heads down😳

  14. If everyone who’s getting older, having aches and pains in their joints etc gave up the tools and became consultants there wouldn’t be enough consultant jobs to go around? Mind you perhaps there’d be more tree work for those who stuck it out to the bitter painful end🤔. Not everyone wants to walk around with a clipboard like Blakey from “On the Buses”, there’s me showing my age😳. Of course we do need consultants, but I can get one fairly easily if needed, try finding a decent climber or groundy that’s not already gainfully employed?
