  1. Funnily enough there was no trace of instant gasket etc.
  2. Hi, I'm just stripping down another Dolmar 100 that I was given and found theres no cylinder gasket. Wheres the best place in the UK to get hold of one? Cheers

    Makita DCS430

Thanks, its given me a list of things to check. There cant be much up with it as it started fairly easy today.

    Makita DCS430

Choke out, pull. When it fires, choke in then pull to start. I had it started again today, just stalling when I try to rev it up. Ticks over quite nicely!

    Makita DCS430

I'm using a Clarke gauge, I'll try it on one of my decent Huskys as a comparison, I need to find my Gunson gauge and check that too. I'll whip the carb off again tomorrow and have a look at the metering arm etc to see how it looks. I'm determined to have at least one DCS430 running in my collection!

    Makita DCS430

Hi, I'm messing with yet another Makita DCS430. Good spark, compression 120+psi. I think it's flooding (every time I take the plug out it is saturated), I stripped the carb down and cleaned it and managed to get in running, started to adjust the carb when it warmed up. Came to it 10mins later and nothing, zilch etc. What should I be looking for in terms of the carb to prevent it flooding? Thanks in advance.
  7. Funnily enough I bought the Clarke one to replace an old Gunson one, I didn't throw it away and realised the Schrader valve wasnt holding air to keep a reading. I replaced it and put it back in the cupboard, I'll give it a go on a decent saw to see how it performs.
  8. Hi, I'm using a Clarke compression tester from Machine Mart. Is this suitable for use on chainsaws to get an accurate reading? Cheers

    Sachs Dolmar 100

Swapped carbs over, no joy. Then I couldn't get the original one to run properly when I swapped them back again, arghhh!!

    Sachs Dolmar 100

Now that's an idea! Tomorrow's project!!

    Sachs Dolmar 100

I'm using a Clarke one, I had a similar reading on the other Dolmar 100 which I got running.

    Husqvarna 39r

Gave up for today, I was pulling it over and the clutch has unwound itself.
  13. Hi, Having got one of my Dolmar 100 saws running today I thought I'd try getting another one to run. It has 135psi compression and the plug is sparking. I stripped the carb, cleaned it and put fresh fuel in the tank. When I put a bit of fuel down the plug hole it doesn't seem to fire, it just occasionally puffs out a bit of smoke. Any thoughts/advice welcome. Cheers

    Husqvarna 39r

Thanks for that. I didn't realise they did a general WT kit I thought they had to be specific to the model.

    Husqvarna 39r

Hi, I've been working my way through my projects and have now got a Husky 39r on the bench, apologies that it's not a chainsaw but the engine is identical to the Husky 40 saw. It fired up nicely when I put some fuel down the plug hole but the metering diaphragm seems a bit stretched. The carb is a Walbro WT99, can I still get a kit for this model?? Cheers
  16. Hi, I hope you're all keeping safe. My son and I are restoring a couple of stoves as a lockdown project (Coalbrookdale Little Wenlock & Hunter Hawk 4). How do we calculate the rope size for the doors? Do we simply measure the channel? Do the rope sizes refer to the stretched diameter? Cheers
  17. Done it! I think... The con rod only slides on and off in one direction, I obviously pushed it off whilst tapping at the gudgeon pin. Slide the conrod to the side, grease in a plastic syringe, blob of grease, place the needle roller, and repeat, pushing down occasionally on the rollers to keep them tight against the journal, carefully slide on the conrod, and check to make sure none have dropped out! Terrible system used by one of my favourite manufacturers!
  18. So, if I've got this right; wriggle the conrod off, blob the rollers into place with some grease, slide the conrod back on?? I've tried feeding the rollers into the space with the conrod in situ and after about 6 or 7 out the 12 rollers I can't squeeze anymore in.
  19. Please tell me I can do this without splitting the crank case....
  20. Hi, Help, whilst attempting to fit a new piston to my project Sachs Dolmar 100 the big end bearing seems to have collapsed! I've retrieved the 12 rollers, what do I need to do?? Cheers
  21. I can empathise with the OP, I like to fiddle with small engines but don't want to tamper with my best saws. I rebuilt a few Stihl TS350 a couple of years ago before playing with saws. Can usually scrounge dead McCullochs to play with but prefer the usual Stihl/Husq/Jons

    Sachs Dolmar 100

I'll start the strip down in the morning. ill have a look at the bore and maybe try a new piston and ring.
  23. Hi, I picked up a Sachs Dolmar 100 the other day, it sparks but fails to fire with a bit is Aspen down the plug hole. I did a compression test which showed about 105psi. Is this too low to get any sign of life from the saw? Cheers
  24. McCulloch PM370, that runs but is not pumping oil, it's not a modern worm driven pump but one in the bottom of the oil tank. Not sure what drives it yet, or even if it's repairable. Runs ok for a 30+ year old saw!

    McCulloch 838

Don't laugh! This is just a little father and son project that I was given. I set the carb screws to one turn on the H and L screws. i did a compression test; 120 psi Put some fresh fuel in, although the primer didn't fill up when I pumped it now I think about it. after a bit of pulling, it ran but very badly and no power. Could anyone give me a few pointers on what I should be checking on it. Thanks in advance from an enthusiastic amateur!
