1. Ah grand. Not far away. Like I said, I've got the car at the minute. Point and im there mate!
 2. In insch, Shared transport at the moment and looking for a car.
 3. Hey folks, So I've just moved up to the north east scotland, and am looking for work. I've about a year and a half in the industry, firstly as a general chainsaw operator in forestry, then as climbing arborist doing street and park tree maintenance in SW London. I'd been doing other things for the last year, but since moving north I've been back up the trees again. Own climbing kit, own ground saw, cs30/31/38/39. Chipper ticket. I've also mewp ticket, but not the paper work. (Maybe someone knows how I can get it?) Anyways. Im solid, safe, reliable. legitimately interested in trees and forestry, and I present well for clients. Looking to see what's out there, happy for short or long term, climbing, feeding a chipper, cutting thinnings, whatever. Im game. Let me know folks! [email protected] 07772435486

 5. Hey folks, So I've got a awesome opportunity (read: trouble in my personal life) to up sticks and move. Now i like trees, but i love mountains. I'm hoping to move somewhere in the alps, for 6 to 12 months, and i'm looking to go sooner rather than later! I was wondering if anyone knows of opportunities for a tree surgeon/forestry worker out there? Chamonix is the place that obviously springs to mind, but really anywhere from the Spanish Pyrenees to Slovakia could fit! Now, drawbacks are that I only speak english and although i'm willing to try and learn anything i'm also pretty realistic that learning languages is not my strength. I've got about a years experience in tree work. First forestry, then climbing everyday for the last 6 months. Hopefully the things that'll make it easier is that i'm super flexible, can bring my own kit out there, and to be honest as long as the job keeps me in bread and lentils (and teaches me a thing or two!) then i'm happy. It doesn't need to be well payed or a full time gig. Access to the hills is the aim. Anyways, any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks folks, Stu
 6. Hey folks, So i'm going to be in London until April and would love to pick up a few bits and pieces of work. A little under a years experience in forestry and arb. The last 6 months climbing daily for street tree maintenance. I am a steady and safe climber, who has a wide range of technical skills and would happily take on all duties of a second climber, including experience with light rigging. Although I've various plates spinning while i'm here I am very flexible with my time and could be onboard with even really last minute requests. I'd prefer to work the occasional day - perhaps 1 or 2 a week - while i'm here. I'm going to be based in Acton, and although I've no transport am confident that between my bicycle and public transport I can meet at a yard/on site in most areas of london. I can provide my own PPE, climbing kit and a husky 560, though i don't own a climbing saw (with the offer of enough work I may buy one). Happy to do any aspect of tree work: climbing, grounding, woodland work, managing traffic or shoveling the stump grinders arising. You name it! Very reasonable day rates and an excellent work ethic. Thanks very much, Stuart Picken 07772 435486 [email protected] cs30,31,38,39,chipper, mewp and first aid

Hi richie,

If you're still looking for someone i'd be keen. Which park are you working in? i actually live in Acton, so probably quite near.

About myself: about a years experience in arboricultural and forestry work, the last 6 months climbing daily in street tree maintenance. I'll not pretend to be a hot shot, but a solid, efficient and safe worker i am. I own my own climbing kit, the only trouble is i don't own a climbing saw or strop. Only a husky 560 which might be a bit OTT.

Anyways, if you'd be interested please let me know.

You can reach me on 07772 435486,day times or evenings are both fine.

Cheers,

 8. getting some kit and having some practice is really not a bad shout. Obviously it'll never get you up to speed, but it helps. If nothing else it makes you feel like your giving yourself the best shot. i once actually got a job offer from heading for a 'practice'. Apparently the local authority got a phone call saying there was some nutbar swingin' about in their favourite oak. musta lept in their landrover and raced down, only to offer me a job! if the fire brigade could get the same response time i'd be impressed.
 9. this isn't that helpful, but you can select 'uk' for country then 'scotland' for region on arbjobs. Good luck mate, i'm sure you'll find something!
 10. hmm. I'm actually well tempted. But I also need you all to tell me firmly and maturely it's a bad idea. Having said that: if i'm looking for a wee hobbie piece, how difficult is a saw to build? I've never gone past basic field maintenance, am i just gonna get bogged down in jumbled parts and inadequate tools? and, when i put the saw to a log, will it just explode... bearing in mind the saw would get used, but i don't really need one.
 11. hey there! so living and working in london, with an interest in milling. I don't have the space or means to get the kit and jump right in, but i'd really like to be picking up some skills and foundational knowledge. Just see what its all about. so yea, just a message to see who's around? whether its a bloke with a alaskan mill just bodging on at the weekend, or something more involved i'd be really interested to hear what you're up to! ideally i'd like to find somewhere who might be interested in some hired muscles perhaps a day a week, or on weekends. i'm talking beer money and experience really. However, if you're out there just crackin' on in your shed of an evening and wouldn't mind some company please let me know. i'm not sure if this is a long shot, but if there's nobody doing it i'd be interested to hear that as well. cheers, stu ps. only limitation is i don't have a car, however, don't underestimate how far a bit of keenness and a decent bike will get me.
 12. I know treevolution near edinburgh run them from time to time. I've trained there before and would rate them highly.
 13. Hi there, New to the industry. I'm currently working mon-fri for local company doing a variety of forestry related work. lots of cutting, all on the ground. I'm hoping to find some weekend work, largely to keep my hand in at the climbing! Qualified with cs30/31/38/39/chipper/first aid. I'm a solid, safe hard worker. Always keen to put the effort in, graft and learn what I can while i'm at it! currently without a car. Please get in touch for any more info, rates, references, or a full CV! Thanks very much, Stuart Picken 07772 435486 [email protected]
 14. Hey folks, So i'm Also working through the HCC level 2. I'm most of the way through the questions for the first section (soil), though it's taken a back seat the last couple weeks (and probably will for the next couple as well!) Would people be interested in putting a mailing list together for sharing info, asking questions, discussing etc? Anything sorta academic i've done in the past i've always found seeing how others are getting on can smooth out the tough patches and help with the motivation. If anybody's keen, maybe drop my an email at [email protected] and I'll put a mailing list together and we can all weigh in.
 15. I am currently looking for a new start position as an Arborist. Over the coming month I will have completed CS30/31/38/39. I am looking for that first break into the industry where I can count myself lucky, work hard and build my skills and experience. I am also willing to move to most places in the UK (based on proximity to mountains!) and experience is my main priority. So if you're looking for someone who is maybe new to the industry, and you can introduce to Your way of doing things, then look no further! You can be confident your business would benefit from taking on someone who is capable, excited and a quick learning new start. Please get in touch for a C.V. and some references. And please excuse the All-American type sales pitch. Thanks very much, Stuart Picken 07772435486 [email protected]
 16. ok so i've posted elsewhere in the forum asking about employment, http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/97939-getting-first-job.html But I've got a related question I thought would be better put here. I've booked on CS30,31,38,39 over the next few months (while finishing up some previous unrelated work). In addition I'd like to pick up some first aid training. Not sure whether that's truly necessary, but either way I feel like it's something I (and any prospective employer) would be happier if i had. So, what's the recommended course? HSE 3 day first aid at work? 1 day emergency first aid? Or something else? I've a few previous maritime first aid qualifications, all about to expire. I guess I'd add that budget is seriously relevant, but if it'll improve my chances of getting a job - I'm interested! If not, maybe i'll delay a few months. Thanks for the input all!
 17. Hey Folks, I've bit the bullet and forked out for cs30/31/38/39. Financially and personally speaking, that means I'm all in. I've worked and played at heights before (up mast and mountains), and I've even a little related work experience helping a forester coppice birch trees. But the big question for me is still, how do you get that first job? I'll have finished these courses at the end of May, and at that point I'll be out of work and out of a place to stay! That makes me motivated. basically i'm looking for suggestions. if you guys were thrown back to my position, how would you go about getting that first role? Getting practice and experience is more important than the wage so long as I can keep a roof over my head and I'm not undercutting others. Moreover, I'm happy to move almost anywhere.
