  1. I've not had no accident to date, and even if I did I'd put it down to me. never made an insurance claim neither and don't intend too. again if I break it I pay for it.. personal injuries?, if I get caught its down to me, tough tities is what I say I'll deal with the consequences in my own way.. I'm as livid as the next man when idiots cost me money on insurance, especially as I don't intend to claim on it myself.. I insure my van third party just to make me careful, and live by my own code of conduct.. even if someone crashes into me, I pay.. So yea, I won't cost you or other tree surgeons a penny more than you pay.. and its not like I'm out cutting tree's down everyday.. sometimes I can go for months without chopping off a branch...
  2. Damn thats scary.. Now, taking on something as plainly dangerous as that is a different kettle of fish. we're not talking a piddling job here are we.. Considering the set up time, the element of danger involved were talking good money for taking on that thing.. If there was a way, I'd set the charges at the stump and run like hell.. damn the other tree's round abouts..
  3. As far as the customer is concerned you might well turn up with an axe and chop it down for all they care.. you buy your equipment to save time, thats it.. you don't buy it and then demand a customer pays for it, you buy it so you can become efficient. all the better to compete against your rivals.. How much time does having a woodchipper you paid thousand for save this fella having two stems felled and left on the ground?.. None. your point is mute..
  4. All laws are based on fairness ,in this case the question might be posed who had what first, the tree or the shed. If the tree was there first its beholden on the shed owner to take into account any future damage from the tree.. if the tree owner planted after the shed, then its beholden on him take into account any future damage the tree might do.. Then theres the frivolous complaint.. how much damage to the shed?.. Then there the fact a landowner can if he wishes ameliorate any damage from encroaching tree's by having a legal right to cut back limbs to a boundary. Basically, it looks like it might be a case of the shed owner getting his hands in his own pocket and not trying claim off insurance.. or going round to his neighbors and plead for help in costs.. good luck with that..
  5. Its up to me to back up my claims?. you know damn well I'm right to start with.. its up to you to prove me wrong.. Try taking your car to another garage, you take it one week your wife the next, or vice versa.. see if you get any difference.
  6. Find your own study, do your own research, you think I've nothin better to do than do your work for you?.. By the way, who takes your wife's car to the garage?..
  7. https://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/06/27/study-auto-repair-shops-really-do-charge-women-more-sometimes You can read that for evidence if you like, its not the study I was going off mind but does add weight to the one I read some years back..
  8. evidence suggest garages will charge woman more than a man if they take their car to be serviced, fixed.. why? because men can be arseholes to woman and most men know it.. I'm sure most fella's take their own car or even the wives if it needs fixing, I wonder why?.. So, this fella gets a visit to price his tree's and his wife receives the tree cutter downer and consequently feels he's been over quoted.. I wonder why he'd think that?...
  9. I live on a farm, but I wouldn't describe myself as a farmer.. If someone described me as a farmer I think I'd die of embarrassment. Perhaps this farmer is just a bit careful with his money, and especially so with so many shysters tryin it on... then there's the wife, anyone knows that its a lot easier to over-quote a woman than a man.. perhaps thats whats really peeved him off.. first off he wanted a quote, but got a visit. to make matters worse they gave the price to his wife.. knowing the fella would of quoted high for the wife..
  10. I mean I dont take on jobs that I dont have the equipment for.. for instance I don't do monster tree's cause I don't fancy hauling tons of wood back and forth... I pass those on to proper tree companies... like I've pointed out dozens of times doin tree;s is more of a hobby for me.. something different to shake up my routine..
  11. I take on jobs I can do, so no problem things going wrong.
  12. Next time I do a tree I'll be sure to get the cops in then...
  13. I have insurance, I just don't have any tickets.. then again I only do private work.. no need to get yourself all flustered on my account.
  14. err no I didn't, that was because I'd double typed a D at some point. I remember it well.. caught it before the ten minute deadline, like a boss.
  15. Yea, a new pair of specs tomorrow? maybe.. I could get away by leaning into my monitor a little, save myself two quid in the morning..
  16. Did I, spell checker flea fkd me... it happens
  17. Err not sure what you mean, I have insurance.. I think!!!!.. I have public liability insurance, they said it covers tree work so what do I know?...
  18. Right on, I can manage small to middling jobs, wouldn't fancy taking on a forest.. then again ain't that the whole point, why employ someone who needs to charge fortunes when you can get someone in who can charge a lot less... What do I need?. a chainsaw and a few bits and bobs..
  19. seein as I've never had a misshap yet, I don't suppose insurgence is an issue... the only time insurance has been brought up was last year by a nosy neighbor and he asked me to top his tree's after I finished the job I was doing...
  20. He said there was a stream just under the tree, if it barber-chaired you could jump into the stream for a softer landing. couldn't ask for better positioning of a water course..
  21. I'm a word of mouth kind of guy.
  22. I said it was easy, I don't why that means I said it wasn't dangerous.. it can be dangerous, but most tree surgeons don't think it is, otherwise they'd be doing something else... as to spending on training, I haven't spent a penny to date, no intention of doing that at my age... I can see why its required in this day an age. But its not exactly necessary if you know what your doin and you apply a little common sense.. How many on this site had to do all this training to get into tree work, I suggest none of the older ones... this is a tree, I want it chopping down. get in said tree and learn as you go.. its what I did.. and still do. On the other hand, if I employed someone it would be different, but I don't employ anyone and if I do I make sure as hell I take all the risks...
  23. It'd be pretty boring though wouldn't it.... a pair of ladders lent up against a tree and me chainsawing through two parts of the tree.. Its easy as eating a meat pie... Buckin billy has learned me everything..
  24. good idea..
  25. If it was as dangerous as you try to make out, there wouldn't be any tree surgeons..
