  1. Of course you could always ask phone co to move line. Good luck with that tho' .Surprised to see suggestion that you need to give 6 weeker , think I'd phone TO and tell what and when I intended to do job.
  2. Cherry picker job - cut it small 2 x stop/go men + groundie, £400 + cp hire half days work.
  3. Tell him I'll do it but I won't be there until the day before yesterday.
  4. When people ask what I do I normally reply " trees, anything to do with trees" and looking back now I'm in my 60's that about sums it up. Take anything that comes your way.
  5. I'm guessing hereLuke but have you tried to get the FC to put there stamp of approval on it?
  6. Use your blower as a bellows when getting a fire going. or if it's died down a bit.
  7. Years ago I had one ringed up in the back of my truck and a hairy bloke asked me about them and what was happening with them. I told him probably firewood and he asked if he could have a few different sizes for making drums - sure help yourself and he did. When dismantling, don't slip it can be a bit painful.
  8. Topping the tree won't solve the damage though. Got a picture of damage. Someone here may suggest you go and ask if you can fell. Try the friendly approach with photos, (first).
  9. Get down hire shop first thing and get a 30-45ft rope operated triple ladder get into tree - spike or throw climbing rope depending how close you are to a limb. I would prefer steel wire on a digger if pulling. Cut some ivy and fell. Boom boom Failing that get the digger to put you into tree just above ivy and spike the rest.
  10. Don't know what sort of work you're doing Tony but should you start getting work from bigger organisations you will need minimum 5 millon PL sometimes more Steve
  11. Can't see taking anything off the top will help rot at base. If you do take it off anyway, as Mountainman says you'll get a rot pocket where cut and then various new leaders will appear. I guess the rot at base will worsen and tree will become liability within time. If it were my tree I'd fell and establish a new one to take it's place.
  12. Yes about £2300 for that model - what I meant to say is that you wouldn't need that size - just used as example.Have a look here Wind Generator 12V | eBay
  13. David, I had to do a businees plan to get a loan for start up in 1980ish. The bank needs to see it in a specific formula and over a period of time in the recent past say 2 years and a projection say another 2 years. I was working for LA while I did this and I had done loads of private jobs evenings, holidays and w/end and I made a brief note of these with an eye on the future. When I got the loan I had work in hand and more came in and I actually found the business plan was pretty well adhered to so it can be a good thing to actually do a proper plan on paper that you can tout around your bank/building society. I'll have a root around and see if I can find my original plan (sure I saw it recently) so you can see how I went about it. You'll be surprised at the money we worked for in those days, and everything was hand loaded onto truck or burnt.
  14. Hi Joe, good luck for the future, a question though- aren't quals available in Sweden?
  15. Needn't cost the earth, couple of pre-charged big batteries and all the generator has to do is top up - presume you'd use LEDs strip lights and maybe couple of spots. They're used a lot on yachts to top up the "domestic" batteries when engine's off and are better bet than solar as wind present majority of time and seagull poo doesn't cut output
  16. Couple of lorry batteries and one of these Ampair Wind, Hydro and Packaged Power specialists | Ampair 600
  17. Ah but Confucius say Tree here first and more important - move your bloody line
  18. Oh, must be an age thing -still confused
  19. Am I missing something - why did you have to fell ?
  20. Sounds like the sort of job I'd have a look at on way back to the yard - have a looksee manageable in less than hour, £90 - £125 = few extra tokens
  21. Watching over us making a complete balls-up of the planet and wondering how did it ever get thus. They're also wondering why the inhabitants can't get on with each other.
  22. Hi Steve and thanks - I've been informed there's one available in Surrey and will pass info on, if that doesn't come off I may well get back to you for contact in Kent. As said in OP the job's all somewhat tentative and all about working out logistics at the moment. Thanks Steve
  23. Got talking to chap I bought a saw from today and he show me some photos of about 8 roadside trees (country lane Surrey) and discussed ways of getting them down - condemned apparently - and as there is room to fell we both came up with matador and big old winch. It's a very narrow country lane on a bend and electric and phone cables on poles beneath the crowns but not through them. They're big old things with a bias towards the road but I've pulled stuff over using a Matador and it would seem an idle job for one - or would you suggest something else. This is all tentative at moment and I'm only asking on his behalf, but something could come of it and I could pass details on. Steve

    Large saw

Thanks for all your help - picked up an old Homelite 111cc with 28" bar today for little money, fired her up and you could instantly feel the power in it - was the first big saw I had back in the 70's - heavy but built to last ... lol
