Large saw

I'm amazed at peoples' generosity on this forum offering their saws to a newbie here. I may be buying an old saw elsewhere but if that falls through them I will certainly take up an offer. Stubby, where are you? Thanks all Steve

    Large saw

Hi Jon - Thanks for replying. I'm OK for saws up to 20" but some of these butts have massive unions which will need sorting with 30" or even 36" Steve

Hi Sandpiper - yes I was thinking of that but some forums have a thing about crossposting between forums so I thought that most people would check into General Chat for a quick looksee. Steve

    Large saw

Hello all. First time on this forum and not sure if this post should be on here or elsewhere so please advise if it belongs on another forum. I sold up some time ago but still keep my hand in at trees and other work with mate who has plant hire co. I need a large saw for trimming some large butts and was looking at hiring in a large saw but largest I have found is 20 inch. Does any one know of any hire company offering 30 inch or larger? Obviously I cannot justify the expense of a new saw for a couple of weeks work if that. Sso failing the hire in route has any one an old large saw body perhaps needing work or needing bar and chain. If you have something lurking in the depths of your store that might fit the bill pleae PM me. It doesn't need to be pretty. Edit: This is to buy. Thanks Steve
  5. People who read up planning decisions and then go out trying to undercut others are no better than doorknockers and we all know what their work ethics are. Do they have insurance, will they take the rubbish away or is that an extra, are they licensed to carry waste etc etc.
  6. They have planted a house on its vital parts. tree has had at go at surviving but has given up the ghost and is begging to be put out of its misery.

    Oak weight

Hi little-green, that sounds interesting what sort of tonnage can you carry and can you take mixed lengths or do you want even lengths. Lot of questions I know, but we've not had to clear this much before.

    Oak weight

Hi Chris and seasons greetings to you along with thanks for your answer. The grab lorry I mentioned is not a timber wagon so no pins but I would say !m high by 2m wide by 5/6m long.so that would be 10/12cube, less airspace plus whatever we load on top and strap down so back to 10/12 cu/m- would you concur with that or what would you suggest. I'm now looking at cutting down the 6m lengths for ease of getting to main access - is there really such a difference in timber prices and firewood prices on 12" diameter cord? From your post I think you are suggesting Oak = ton per cu/m Poplar = say 0.75 per cu/m So we can load 12 ton of Oak cord and deliver or it can be picked up - what's a reasonable price per ton. Thanks again for your help - Steve
  10. Good evening all, first post and hope you can help. We have a good deal of Oak (English) and Poplar which has been on the ground for almost exactly a year. A lot has been corded - (2.4m and 6m x 12"+) but has not yet been moved to pick up point at roadside. For various unforeseen reasons we did not quite finish cutting the felled trees and are only now considering getting back in there to finsh off. A few questions- How many tons of 12 month old field dried cord could we get on 8 wheeler grab lorry. Anyone interested 50 ish miles radius Emsworth (Hampshire W/Sussex border) to purchase several loads. What's a fair price for an 8 wheeler load. Anyone interested in pulling it out themselves and then working out a price for 8 wheeler loads delivered. There's also some lengths of large butts 3/4+ ft diameter trunks there. Any comments questions or otherwise very welcome. Steve

Hi Domnant, where are you in the south, we've a lot of felled oak and willow cord laying as cut exactly a year ago in 6m and 2m lenths with varying diameters. If you know of anyone local to Emsworth with tractor and trailer with crane to bring it to roadside (not far) but residential we can grab it and deliver. I can walk you over it anytime after Xmas day, dependent on how you're fixed. There's plenty there, more than 300 t I should think.
