  1. As long as the chain and winch are up to the job :D Glad someone did, haha!
  2. It would be nice to get a bit of work whereby I can utilise my skill (and I use the word 'skill' in the simplistic of terms...) but I would like to progress on to medium trees. I'm not fussed about climbing, you don't see many hippos in trees but I'm happy to do groundwork. I would like to do some woodland management, that's the direction I'm wanting to take my business in. Habitat management, woodland management, and wildlife management all working together to create a diverse habitat where all elements work in unison. Cheers! Not sure I deserve a new saw, think I'd better repair my Stihl though...
  3. Cheers Richie! Graham, thank you! I honestly thought I wasn't going to get it but the assessor said I was doing everything right and could see potential but my hinges were all incorrect. He (not that he should have) showed me how to get the hinge as he wanted. I then got them all right with no problems.
  4. Not only do I hold the Lantra Woodchipper ticket I now hold the NPTC Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting, Felling and Processing up to 380mm (CS30/31) I was a little worried about the maintenance questions but breezed through those. I was confident with the felling yet that's where I had problems... I had a couple of hinge issues but overcame those with the help of the assessor and a pass verdict was the result
  5. Cheers! I'm actually looking forward to it really I know I can do it, I mean I'm 38 years old for Christ's sake, it's not like I'm a kid just left school... :D
  6. Once I'm there I reckon I'll be ok, it's just trying to remember some of the details now...
  7. In 12 hours I should be into my assessment... I spoke to one of the lads who did his today and he said both he and the other lad on the course past. He also said the assessor was really good and helpful to the point of dragging a couple of answers from him and offering an idea where to find another
  8. I had a Galaxy Note last time and seriously thought about getting a new one this contract but opted for the S5 instead and love it :D
  9. Cheers Paul! I'm a bastard for taking pictures, haha!
  10. Nuts (in a good way) or not, he certainly did a good job as the chipper was flawless.
  11. Feel free to tell him John! I was telling Gareth the same, it was an absolute pleasure to have shared the course with him. I can tell you one thing and that's he really enjoys working with you, full of nowt but praise On another note, that's a mighty fine chipper you have! I love the way it's been designed with the ability to position the chute through 360°. Tis a great bit of kit
  12. Cheers Paul, although it wasn't that difficult I'll be happier come Tuesday with passing my chainsaw assessment
  13. Had a great day today on the chipper course, which I passed On the course there were a couple of chaps (Andy and Charles) who worked for the National Trust and you could tell they'd worked together for a while. They just worked in unison, pretty much like one person. Then there was Ben who works with Gray Git. What a thoroughly decent chap he is
  14. Cheers for that Oakleaf Bet it sucks to be that squizzer mind Got the chipper course today so looking forward to that. Suppose I'd better crack on as it's already 7:20
  15. I heard the assessor is really laid back and will drag the answers out of me should be need to I'm looking to do the emergency first aid with forestry, hopefully next month and then medium trees, if find allow
  16. Well that's all the hard work done... Just got to assure the assessor that I know what I'm on about, I'm safe, and I can take down trees (up to 380mm ) safely... Assessment day is Tuesday but tomorrow is chipper training which basically means the brash I've created this past week is going to be chipped as part of that course and believe me, there's some bloody brash A couple of pics of one of my training partners during today's felling. You can't really see how bad the snow was coming down but pretty much everything was white over in minutes
  17. Cheers Paul! I'm a sod for taking pictures and videos... I filmed myself taking a couple of trees down today. That way I can check my technique and also, if something goes wrong I'm able to view the footage to see what I did.
  18. Oh yeah... I also felled some larch and used Silky's favourite cut for the first time today, the dogs tooth
  19. It was certainly an interesting trip in to the training centre this morning... We had snow last night which then froze with more snow falling on top. As I was travelling along the road I hit a patch of ice before travelling sideways towards the hedge/wall... The top left tracks were my front wheels and the bottom left tracks, my rear wheels
  20. No idea? I'll find out tomorrow I suppose :D I quite liked the double V cut we were shown, although we'll not need it for the assessment.
