  1. I see that. But from my point of view I would never do it as a box ticking exercise and would make sure it is done correctly. It is great for my personal development and would make me more valuable to the company and would save them money.
  2. I mean when an ecologist arrives on site to survey the area. There looking for nesting birds, dormice etc. So that you can be cleared to undertake your work
  3. Hi I work for a Utility cutting firm. I have a degree in conservation biology and a general passion for the subjects of ecology and arboriculture. My boss brought up the idea of me doing the ecological surveys rather then outsourcing them. My question is what are the requirements of the surveyor in order to make their surveys legitimate. What do I need to know? And is it even possible for somebody within the company to do the survey. I hope this makes sense. Any information on this area would be greatly appreciated.

  5. I hear you, on the too nice for work but you can get one for £80 and a cut and climb is 150
  6. Anybody know about this Ridgeline Pintail Smock I found the coat because I was looking at the Swazi Tahr and they mentioned the ridgeline monsoon as an alternative and I therefore came across the pintail Ridgeline Monsoon ELITE Waterproof Smock Jacket - Teak Anybody have any experience with durability, as you guys know it is't just about how waterproof it is, it is how it stays waterproof getting jabbed my thorns and stuff all day
  7. Few lads from college went and said they have brought out a new 201 and 261. College got given one of each but I didn't get to try either before I left. Those who did though said they were noticeable better. Anyone else tried the new ones and if so are they at the dealers yet?
  8. Hello. My name is David Searle. I finish my level 3 in Forestry and Arboriculture at the end of June and am inquiring if there are any positions available in Devon. I currently have my CS30 and CS38 and hopefully will add to that by the time I finish, I also have a driving license and forklift certificate. I have some experience in the industry working with a tree Surgeon on my days off but am inexperienced, and willing to graft and learn as much as possible. Many thanks David Searle

    Backpack

I have a 65l backpack but want a little daypack so im not lugging around that great big thing all the time. Any suggestions?
  13. Yeah like that. But I bet that costs a bob or two
  14. Hey. So a guy I work with has a Nissan Cabstar. It is an alright truck, lacks power when loaded but I think that might just be the model he has. Anyway, we were doing some trees in a large garden the other day and it rained heavily and we got stuck for hours, winching it around the garden until the homeowner came back and pulled us out with his Jag. My point is it is a good Arbtruck and you have lots of room in the back but a little bit of mud and it's useless. Obviously the alternative is a 4x4 tipper such as a land rover but am I missing something? Why do they not make a Cabstar or equivalent with 4 wheel drive or is there something out there which is like I am talking about. Not a mog.
  15. One of the few harnesses to really obliterate my testicles
  16. I am located im South Devon at the moment but depending on pay and it being economicly viable I would move if the opportunity presented itself
  17. So im half way through my lvl 3 in Forestry and Arboriculture. I will hopefully have my 30, 31, 38 and 39 when Im done and a drivers licence. I also hold a 2:1 In Conservation Biology. I used a personal development loan in order to study Arb so need to begin paying it back as soon as im done and its nearly 200 a month. I suppose what I am asking is what people would do in my situation amd what I can likely look to earn come July when I am finished Hope it makes sense
  18. Really interesting thread as I am currently doing a Level 3 in Forestry and Arb. Funnily enough I came to this back to front. I went to University and studied Conservation Biology and now I'm doing this. I love it and learning all the time but am I suppose more academic then all the other lads so the theory days I relish as much as the practical. At my college we do two days theory and one day ground work obe day climbing every week. I also work with a local tree surgeon and work every Saturday and Sunday driving a forklift in a yard amd putting farm stuff in the back of pickups. I am 22 and because I have done a course higher then my current obe get no funding help. I do hope however that when I finish and employers see I have a degree, appropriate Arb training and enough work ethic to of spent the last year either at work or college 7 days a week just so I could pursue my chosen career path, it will stand me in good stead. I agree with many of the complaints in this thread and would like to say where I study seems to be actively trying to get us ready for industry. But I frequently here my teachers lamenting the need to get us trained for NPTC and not industry. Hopefully though for those of us who are working in it when not at college we can ses how it converges and keep learning. Great thread

    Cs38

I have my CS38 soon. Im just wondering if anyones cone across a document showing the actual procedures before. I mean the system used to tie at the bittom of the pole, how to attach them to your harness etc. Ive practiced but don't want to fail so something like ive described would be really useful. If not I may just draw my own (although I can't draw). Cheers
  20. What sort of prices are we talking?
  21. If you guys are interested read Feral by George Monbiot
  22. Ok thanks guys, I will hold off buying anything for now then.
