  4. was taking a look at some of the treehog stuff, and if you compare them to the treeup stuff you'll see there exactly the same harnesses lowering equipment e.t.c only treeup's half the price. don't know if this is of interest to anyone but it might save someone a few pound.
  5. cheers i'll take another look around before I buy. any ideas on where I might buy a treehog?
  6. found this on ebay price is good and its about the right specs for the small kit i'm putting together, but it has no protection rubbers and looks like it might damage the bark on the tree. thoughts? TREEUP ABSEILHILFE TU 110 RIGGINGPOLLER BAUMPFLEGE FORSTZUBEHÖR STAHL VERZINKT | eBay
  7. that's what that is! what are they for then?
  8. good to know it can be used for everything. it just looked a lot different from the ones I've used before. cheers for the help
  9. I've just bought a Sirius 14mm rope, got it to do a bit of small rigging with a loopie pinto setup. I was pretty confused when it came to buying a rope just got this one because it was cheap. I've done a good bit of rigging but always used whatever rope the firm I was working for had. I now realize this rope is completely different to anything I've used before. my question is what can I use it for should I have a different rope for section felling? any help greatly appreciated
  10. milled some elm recently and have a load of large slabs I thought would make nice table tops. have no experience with finishing wood and these are much to large for planning some of them being over 3 foot wide. is there a good way of finishing them or should I cut them down into smaller planks and take them to a joiner? thanks
  11. just to add to what has already been said. find out what the conditions on the site are befor applying for a felling licence (application for clear felling may harm your chances of being granted permission for future management plan's). I've done work in in sssi and aonb's and been granted felling licence no problem It's how you go about it. a ccf management plan may be your best option some will have conditions where you can only use low impact machinery this shouldn't be a problem on such a small site. it may lower your costs as well you can allow natural regeneration in the place of replanting something as small as a quad bike or a Kubota can handle fairly large stems if set up right. by only taking out what you need when you need it you can get much more out of a small woodland and it may be of much more value to you in the end. just something to think about.
  12. think you might be right there. i'll see if I can get funds for it. cheers
  13. it's worth £40 a foot? seems like a lot
  14. I've got mulberry burr I've been tryin to get rid of if your interested
  15. true but have a load of other stuff to mill after this and like I said trying to keep cost down already have an Alaskan there and will need big saw for other tree works.
  16. some have dutch elm they only started to show signs last summer so hopping that the wood will be ok. the rest are coming down as a sort of pre emptive strike so they don't contract it. were going to mill and steam kiln on site so as not to spread the infection. all ready a lot of money being spent on this equipment as this is a new department so trying to keep costs down
  17. can do that no problem it's in dover but could post it to you. thanks for the info hopefully be able to convince the organization i'm workin for to invest in a big saw
  18. i have 7 large trunks of Ulmus x hollandica (huntingdon elm) does anyone know if it's worth milling? trying to justify the need for a large saw. will be using alaskan to mill thanks
  19. dose anyone do loler inspection in dover or near
