  1. I only have a small open fire in the living room & collect what I can each year, from wherever I can as I`m always asking around. I was lucky at the start of this year as I was offered some windfall pine & birch, gave the guy a nice bottle of malt although he didn`t want anything. So cut all that & stacked it (south facing) I have since split it & have more than enough for the winter, so I have given some to a neighbour & will drop some off at a friends next week, I like to share it around ... it`s nice to be nice!

  4. Thanks for that Jpw ... I`m a casual saw user like yourself, must admit I had never heard of Aspen until I posted this thread!
  5. That`s the reason I asked in the first place, as my old saw suffered from brittle/cracked fuel lines as it had been lying unused for a long period of time .... confused now!
  6. Hi, Thanks for all your replies! After I drained the fuel I let it idle until it stopped running like sandspider said ... I`ll leave the oil in then as most of you have said that`s ok. It`s a brand new saw (Stihl MS181) only used it twice as I cut most of the wood already with my old saw, so want to look after it, have also taken the cover off & cleaned it all up!
  7. Hi there, I have all the wood that I`ll need for over the winter cut into rounds now & have almost finished splitting it all. I have drained the petrol from the tank & ran the saw dry. What about the oil, should I drain that too before I put it away until I start cutting again in spring next year? thanks in advance, Al
  8. I`m no expert by any means, but I agree with what peatff says!
  9. Yes it is, easy to split when seasoned too!
  10. Here`s my 90 ... I`m Land Rover daft as well as Log daft!!
