Yes, but woodworm holes only appeared a few years after it was cut, so don't think they were the cause.

Hello, Does anyone on here know what this is? It was cut from an ash tree I think. It's a few years old now, just one of my strange things found during my forestry course. The branch was about an two inches in diameter and the growth is about ten inches at it's widest point. I cut the ends of to see the cross section.

Dismantled a willow tree today for the in-laws, didn't really need to be dismantled, I just did it for a bit of practice, and to try out my new rope. It was dying, shame as it was a picture perfect weeping willow. Everything went to plan. Not climbed for a while so I ache a lot

I've removed the screws, thoroughly cleaned them and the rest of the carb. The saw is now all back together. Just got to drop kids at school and then I'll test it out.

I finally got some carb cleaner today, and found out we have a toolstation here I tried to turn the screws in (clockwise) but they didn't want to move. I turned them the other way and they unscrew freely, after an initial click, as if they'd used locktite or something. Not sure if this will make things easier to get the screws back in to the same depth or not.

OK, will do that. Thanks for the tip. Went to get some more carb cleaner today, but they'd sold out, and said next week. I ordered 3 lots of parts for this so far, and they all took a week as well. I quite enjoy taking things apart and fixing them, but all the waiting for things is frustrating. The joys of living on an island I suppose.

Half inch sounds about right to me. Have you looked into uses for the 'waste'? I made charcoal commercially for a few years and we had so much waste that was no good for barbeques. I started researching what to do with it. Activated carbon for filters was what I was looking into. But the business went tits up and I lost my job before getting a chance to do anything with it. Orchid growers were interested in the scrap charcoal, although I don't think any actually paid money for it. Although thinking back, I think the free samples were enough to last them years. Artist charcoal is a good little side line too.

The white tube thing controls the choke, the choke switch screws into the end when the carb is fitted. OK thanks, I'll have a go at removing the gold cap things.

I'd tie a rope round the end, run it around the hazel and pull it to the side and see what happened. It might just break off making it easier to deal with, or maybe it'll rest safely out the way.

It may be 10 years old, but it's been well looked after, and had little use. I bought a new ms170 to use in the mean time, but I need a top handle saw and can't afford a new decent one of them yet. I'll post some pics in a short while. Thanks, Glen

I had a look at the caps where the H & L screws usually are but couldn't see how to remove them, I suppose there must be a way. I cleaned the carb very well, using half a can of carb cleaner, squirting into every hole, I'll give it another once over just to make sure.

I did have a look for cracks, splits etc, but I'll double check extra thoroughly in the morning. I have swapped the plug with my mowers plug, and nothing changes. I'll have a look at plug colour too, but last time I looked it was a good biscuit brown colour. Probably a good idea to get a new sparkplug just to make sure. The idle adjuster works, it just has no effect because it won't idle at all, even with it fully in. Thanks for your input.

Oooo a picture of a pretty cat. I expect if I posted pictures of some of the mutilations I have found in my garden they would/should be removed by a moderator, as they are quite disturbing. Slow worms, newts, a door mouse and countless birds and chicks. I don't deny they are beautiful creatures, but they are killers and they need to be controlled.

Not sure what you mean, dogs aren't usually left to roam freely, and when they do they are dealt with. Dogs are a lot more controlled than cats, so they are not a problem. Cats however, are a problem that needs to be addressed.

A cat curfew needs to be introduced, and any cats found outside after dark should be shot.

The saw is a Makita DCS3400TH. Link to an exploded diagram. I've had this saw for about 10 years with no problems. Recently it started cutting out on tickover, and has got progressively worse until it won't tick over at all. It runs fine when revved, but when the revs drop it cuts out, if I keep blipping the throttle then I can keep it running. Carb is made by Tilliston. Thing's I've tried: Replaced clutch drum/sprocket, guide plate, bar, chain and toolstrop eye, not that I thought these would fix it, but they needed replacing anyway and I thought the tickover would be an easy fix. Adjusting the idle screw has no effect. Cleaned the carb with carb cleaner. Replaced gasket behind the carb. Replaced carb membranes/gaskets with genuine carb kit. Thoroughly cleaned the whole saw. Fuel pipes are all fine, tank filter is clean. New fuel, new stihl 2 stroke oil (50:1 mix) H & L screws seem to have a cap on them, so I've not touched them, not sure how to, or if it's possible or even needed to adjust them. I don't know what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't trust my 6 year old to use a chainsaw. I'd trust my 8 year old to use a chainsaw, but I wouldn't trust the saw enough to let him use it, and if I did, it wouldn't be without full head to toe PPE.
