  1. Well. I drove it and it didn't have the acceleration of my Subaru Forester (not surprising) but was quieter at 70mph once it got there. Haven't made up my mind yet but will have a look at some others. Driving position seemed quite comfortable although on a short test drive it's difficult to really tell how it would be long term
  2. How about this: Ford Ranger 3.0 TDCi XLT Thunder Double Cab 4dr
  3. Haven't owned a truck before but I want something for doing tip runs and picking stuff up from builders merchants etc. Going to look at a 2006 2.5 manual today. It's the lower power one and I'm wondering whether I'm going to regret not buying a higher power (3.0) or an automatic (I might be going over the odd field or so but my Jimny is manual and doesn't have a problem) Is the ride on long journeys really that bad? I'm 6'4" - will I fit? I know these are things that should be apparent on a test drive. It's this one: Toyota Hilux
  4. Yes, does look remarkably similar and about the same price too.
  5. Shall I PM you my address or am I off your Christmas card list now?
  6. Congratulations. You've won the Internet. I shall hang my head in shame. By the way, you obviously have little understanding of irony so I'll explain the above was sarcasm. Toot toot!
  7. So this is likely to increase circulation of their magazine? I may have missed the point but you've lost the plot
  8. This was in a magazine edited and published by The Woodland Trust, not an open forum. Of course I defend anyone's right to an opinion but to publish that letter without a response is an unusual decision
  9. She also said that in her local woods there were lots of ash saplings which looked nice from a distance but were outcompeting other native trees. I expect she's got better satellite reception now all those big pesky elms are gone and hopefully sudden oak death will make her views less boring. It would be like an Irish person in the mid 19th century wishing that potato blight would come to their village so they could grow something else.
  10. No. Didn't endear me to joining them now...
  11. I imagine she's also quite fond of watching grey squirrels and muntjac in her garden too.
  12. Was sent a copy of Broadleaf, the Woodland Trust magazine. On the letters page there is some idiot saying she hopes ash dieback arrives in Lancashire soon as she has lots of seedlings springing up in her garden which are hard to remove. She seems to have no idea of the problem... just beggars belief!
  13. If I'm allowed another go, aspen looks beautiful in a breeze
  14. Magnolia has beautiful flowers. May be a "ClassicFM" choice but there's a reason they're so popular
  15. I'll give the underside a good wash, that could help. I'll sharpen the blade again & see if I can increase the belt tension. Thanks for all the advice - definitely the best forum to ask on!
  16. It surprised me too, it really isn't that tall! I'll try revving it harder & putting more tension on the belt to see if that makes a difference
  17. Probably too far for you but I'm 40 minutes away...
  18. Ah, yes, but the one the hire company has is the more powerful model Not really, it's about 1/2 acre but surrounding a barn and an orchard so too narrow in places for a tractor.
  19. From what I recall, to hire one for a weekend cost about £75. Considering they are £3,200 new, that's a fair amount of cutting before it works out cheaper to own/service my own unit. They are cool, though, a real beast of a machine. I can't work out why a Billy Goat with a 13hp engine will go through 2" trees whereas my ride-on with a 13hp engine will barely get through ankle length grass...
  20. I don't think belt tension or dressing would help much, but I'll give it a go. The difficult with this mower is that to tension the belt you have to move the two halves of the chassis apart, using plastic spacers (which I can't find anywhere). I need to make some for myself but think with the design of mower deck, it's never going to be that effective. With a gap cut in the rim of the deck it would let the grass out rather than it just being forced into the small gap between the blade tip and the rim
  21. Yes, you're probably right. I might hire the Billy Goat brushcutter from our local place as have some brambles to deal with too...
  22. Could tow one behind the Jimny
  23. Tried that...
  24. Thinking about this... Garden Machinery From PP Estates Sussex UK | Billy Goat HW651HSP
