  1. 1 in 19 years to my shame. Tree had about 8 wires going through it, and I had done a pretty good job of missing everything...the one bit that brought it down was a piece I nonchalantly cut as I didn't think it could do any damage....a small stub about 8" long and about 2" thick

Aren't these the ones that always catch you out :blushing:

  2. Also regarding the film. I agree that there's been loads of smash bang take down videos and I am keen to see more pruning videos, but I watch to try and learn. The one perspective head cam shots would be better interspersed with ground shots edited to show what your doing from the side too. Also I would prefer to hear you talking about what your doing and why, more than just music. Not easy and I'm not criticising. I think there's lots of scope for more detailed instructional videos going into the more subtle aspects of tree work.

    Thanks

  3. I think it depends on how many are there. If its plastered the boss would probably be sympathetic. Thing is, if its bushes then they may need to be cut down to allow access to clear up. Some sort of protective gloves etc seems a reasonable request and I would ask that the Client is made aware that you are doing them a favour

  4. I've tried using my foot and knee ascenders with my 13mm rope. I struggle to disconnect them. Also found it very stiff/slow descending on the rope wrench. Maybe its me or will I have to buy one of these fancy 11.7 ropes.

if I do I will want it to work for access, maybe a bit of SRTWP but be ok to switch to trad Ddrt.

What are the main differences between tachyon, kernmaster and cougar blue

Sorry I know there has been loads on this but the main question is will a thinner rope make ascent easier

  5. Got caught by a branch around the head the other day. It wrenched my helmet a bit and the strap came loose at one connecting point. Seems to have pulled off a small doughnut shaped push on clip. Anyone know if these can be bought anywhere. If not any repair ideas welcome Se pics below hopefully

  6. We maintain a small industrial park in Cannock. Today I noticed that some overgrown crappy pops on the adjacent railway land had shed some branches..one of which is still on the roof of one of the units. Does anyone know the contact details for Network rail or Railtrack. Presume they have to be given chance to clear up before we just do it and seek to recharge.

    Thanks

  7. Any Thoughts..?

Double stemmed (quite large) sycamore...fire damaged. One side has windblown broken top which is still just attached and lying across a copse of smaller trees. I think it is too entangled to allow a winch out and simultaneous fell of remaining stem. Looks to me like a high anchor point in the un damaged side and walk/crawl out to knock off bits being carefull to not to drop the whole thing while Im on it..? Not sure there is any other way besides a crane/cherry picker. Are the NPTC competences for dealing with storm damage freely available..?

    Any tips gratefully received

  8. There are two trees, both doubles. One is an Ash and the other is a Sycamore. The sycamore has one side snapped out and hung up at the half way point across adjacent trees. Hence reason for call to me. His first question was "Was the break due to weakening" His second concern is the integrity of what's left and if he is liable should his tree fail and damage third party

  9. What is the conventional thinking on the integrity of fire damaged trees.

Large trees...bark gone on one side...plenty of leaf but much deadwood too.

Client questioning whether next door neighbour (who caused damage) is liable for removal costs

    Thanks
