Few snaps from today, awkward ash pollard over a property, doesn't look pretty but is great habitat as its in a wooded area. The second picture is our apprentice out in a limb, he's going to making a cracking climber and has a great attitude towards work 👍

Serving your company well my man 👍

  3. Nice one :)

Been mostly hedge trimming this week, big pop fell last week, so I'm looking forward to a big dismantle :)

Hedge cutting can become borin if done constantly I no how u feel. I've a couple of nice tree climb jobs booked in, maybe we'll hook up 😉

  4. Good climb?

I'm good mate, been dying for a dams good dismantle though!

You getting more tree work yet?

Lovely climb, nice and smooth dismantle of branches etc then felled the stem. Have u not done any for a while then??

Yea a lot more tree work coming in since passing my cs's, growing in confidence, done some subbying for couple of gents off here too. ImageUploadedByArbtalk1410650028.299966.jpg.11782307bf5ccccc9539085a1aa15550.jpg

  5. If you fancy trying the butterfly I have one in my garage you can borrow.

The treemotion I'm less keen to lend however!

Ah that's very kind of you Joseph, wish I'd av known I took down a blue cedar today in church lawford, would av been bang on to try it then, I feel the Austria has won it for me tho fella, you all good tho mate?

  6. I've just got my Tree Austria 3.2 (the newest) and I think its brilliant. Thought the leg loops were a bit loose at first (thought i had got wrong size!) But turns out that its deliberate. The leg loops are proper big and go right up to your backside, has a sliding bridge, like treemotion, and personally i dont think its that busy, 4 or 5 loops and and one on back for your saw.

Spent 5 hours in it yesterday trimming and putting 30 metres of bracing in a horrible 6-stemmed sycamore, and it was very comfortable, as far as comfortable can go with harnesses.

Long story short, I would recommend one! And its cheaper than the tree motion... :thumbup1:

That will do me pal.sold :-)

  7. Seems like your man is taking the piss. End of the day if he's your friend or not it affects your business/image/schedule and everything else. He either sorts himself out or finds other means of work imo.

Also he can mess things up from his side, you won't recommend him as a good worker therefore he won't get work elsewhere. There are plenty of lads out there wanting tree work who are enthusiastic enough to get outa bed.

  8. Forget books, :sneaky2:get up the trees.:thumbup1:

Forget how you think a job should go, or if you feel clumsy, or could of been better. It isn't perfect, it's cutting lumps off of trees and getting them on the ground, with a few variations of the last bit, nothing more.

You have to do something 20,000 times before muscle memory kicks in I was told.:001_huh:

You need to be busy, don't stop at 4pm and head back to the yard, keep going, work until it's dark, work in the dark, drag a 46 up when you only need a top handle, that will make you strong and precise, maybe sounds a bit daft, but if you are out in all weathers , 7 days a week for months, kit falls apart, kit gets forgotten, files get lost, so you use what's there.

Top some privette hedges with an 88 and 3' bar, get into a street tree contract that changes season by the time you get to the end of it, you will be climbing in your sleep.:laugh1:

Cut the sleeves off your t shirt and just get stuck in:thumbup:

I've tears running down my cheek 😂😂

  9. Yeah I'm in my first year out of training, running my own small business and sub-contracting to other arb companys, one guy said that after about 18months working in big trees it just suddenly clicked and everything was smooth and easy. I guess everyone is different and it depends on what type of work you are doing.

I can get the job done but its only through sweat and tears!

I'm sure reading a book will be helpful but I don't think there is any substitute for graft unfortunately. Not always easy when you don't get given opportunities to climb because you are inexperienced, thats one reason I wanted to be self employed, sometimes I have to chuck myself in the deep end.

    Agree totally there pal 👍

  11. People earn what they can earn I'm

Afraid chaps, i quoted a small conifer today, 2 hours work, drop it sned it load it gone, not worth doing for less than £100, then off on the next job, generally I charge 150 a day, I'm not the fastest climber...but I no what I can get done in a day etc, but I'd want that for grounding too..I feel a groundie is jus as important as a climber, and I'm self employed run my own kit van insurance etc, the upkeep has to come from somewhere, who wants to pay all that dollar in training, ppe, chainsaws, n all the other stuff to earn a 1a a day then be taxed on it? May as we'll work in tesco.

Point is we're all in the game to earn/make money so we charge what we can.
