  1. Council firms who are in part paid by businesses operating in the area should not be competing with those businesses.....it is as simple as that.

    cheers

    mac

I'm not sure why it's done for cost, I don't get that bit.

And I agree with you Mac, don't get me wrong I'm not trying to defend or fight for the LA, jus trying to give an insight to people's opinions 👍

  2. That's not the point. Rugby is the same. The tree gang are set up from tax payers money. Equipment, wages, training all subsidised. Then they compete in the private sector against other firms who've had to work for their kit.

Rumour has it it's got to the point where outside contractors may get subbed in to do the Council trees as their teams are too busy with private work.

I have no animosity towards the lads on the tools whatsoever, but the way it's run is disgustingly corrupt.

I know of occasions where the Tree Officer has had the council quoting guy accompany him to TPO apps from private firms.

I do agree it's frustrating for local firms having been on both sides of the coin, but In all fairness private jobs for us are very few and far between, we imo do about 1 a month, I've seen the costings and there's no profit made jus cost covering. I don't know where this rumour has come from as I've heard nothing like that, were generally too busy with highways/parks/street trees/council housing/callouts/woodland to be over run with private stuff...as u said Joe no animosity just respect towards other gangs from me...we jus do our job 😃

  3. Bang on post Adam....I was self employed for a while...wicked when it's cash in hand sunny days....awful when it's wet and u can't work...customer takes ages to pay..van costs etc (I could go on all night), I went employed and it's a complete different world...some people make it some people don't, I admire and respect the lads that have/are...I didn't...but I'm happy as ever with where I am now, same hours, same regular money..all the perks...occasional private work gives a real good feeling to. 👍

Hope things get better for you pal

  4. Can't you just get the apprentice to sharpen your chains?

Our lads aren't even allowed to look at my chains without express permission :D

We have no apprentice yet Joseph...u should apply 😜😜😜😜

I agree my personal gear is my own n my own only....but the works gear gets hammered a lot so forever sharpening the feckers.

  5. I believe tea and coffee go a long way in life...it helps on jobs when the customer gives the "while your here...." line, also it's just a nice gesture....can't beat a nice afternoon tea to wash down the sawdust ☕️☕️

  6. What's your problem? It's a proven machine as a light weight 4x4 and is often used as a vehicle for work. It's cost effective, they're affordable and unlike the kangoo 4x4 still available in the UK.

Or do you want an appointment for the day after monday next week??

No need for that sort of talk on here pal, calm yourself down.

  7. Iv got bits of work lined up but need the kit to do the job, it's an investment, I have looked at long term lease and other options but buying makes sense over hiring. Cheers for the advice again guys think il give that one a miss or try and negotiate price

How many firms u worked for now? 😂, Thers a few timberwolfs on eBay, y not go for a small gravity fed timberwolf to start with?? Mite b good as you start to build up work, mate of mine has one and its a fantastic bit of kit 👍
