  1. Right tried saw tonight cut 4 big pieces of wood put it down on floor and on tick over it was pumping a pool of chain oil out from under the chain cover, we ve turned the flow down a lot but don't want to reduce it more because can see the bar is getting hot.I ve checked the bar and its the right bar.

  2. What do you mean by pouring everywhere? Is it pouring out from parts other than the hole where it should pour out from.

Was the correct bar and chain installed?

It's a big saw that 'houses' big bars and chains. Big saws use lots of oil to lube those long bars.

Its pouring out of correct hole when running on a few revs but its not getting down bar just running on to floor. Correct bar installed by dealer.

  3. I would not have thought it would shut off completely if done up , I would assume this would be the minimum output , does the handbook indicate different settings for different length bars ??

Hi no handbook not very helpful I was really surprised about how much was pouring out I ve turned it down loads could go 2 or 3 more turns

  4. We got our new Makita 9010 saw yesterday today's the first time I ve started it with in seconds I had chain oil pouring everywhere have tried to turn flow down but not sure how far to go and if I turn it right down will the oil flow stop altogether? Never had a saw with adjustable oil flow before ! Thanks

  5. Thats all about kerf - thats how wide a chunk that bars take out of the wood - a narrow kerf bar and chain takes a narrower channel out so takes less power - it is however less forgiving on heavy logging and felling work.

You can also get in to half skip and full skip chain where instead of having a full compliment of cutters on your chain, every other one or one in three is missing causing less drag and sapping less power - one way to get a lesser saw to pull a big bar. Not so common in the UK though!

    Thanks

  6. Bars . Long, short, in between . Basically if you put a bar that is too long for the size of the engine it will struggle . If you put a bar on that is way short of what the engine can handle you can take advantage of this and put a slightly bigger sprocket on which will raise the gearing giving you a faster chain speed . . A good rule of thumb is max bar length in inches = to one third of engine capacity . I.E. 60cc engine max 20" bar :001_smile:

Thanks and why are some bars less power sapping than others of the same length

  7. Looking at new chainsaw gloves in the past I ve had gloves with cut protection for both hands but thinking about having different make this time only work on the ground and this isnt my full time occupation so what should I go for ? Thanks

Sorry mate hope things work out well for you

  9. hello when you put a few tankfuls of fuel through the saw will be free and run in and also the chain will be stretched which will give you some room to put a 8 tooth sprocket which will give you faster cutting speed the dolmar 9010 comes with a solid guide bar and you get alot of drag when cutting i put a oregon power match 32'' bar on mine with a sprocket nose and it was a different saw and i iam not sure if your makita has a sprocket nosed bar or solid bar but please P.M me and i will explain further

    thanks

    andrew

Thanks mate will think about that in the future thanks for your reply

    regards

    Ian

    cheers

Ok every days a school day educate me why would this mod improve it and can we use the same chains ? thanks

  11. Hi case, where did you get it from, let us know how you get on with it.

Hi I was up for buying off internet but my mate went to our local dealer Terratruck Loughborough and they came up with a better price so we did the deal there and then .I have DCS 500 and generally been happy with it so thought we d give it ago.
  12. Hi my partner in crime and myself have bought a new beast of a saw a Makita 9010 on a 30 inch bar won't have it till the end of the week. We don't use saws every day of the week but between us we do a lot of firewood and need a saw to attack some bigger trees. Just hope it will serve us well .
